Meyer, Mullen Meet For The First Time

Posted by admin on October 20th, 2009   1 Comment

It hasn’t been that long since former Gator assistant Dan Mullen was on the sideline right beside Tebow and Urban Meyer, but now looking at the other side of the field and that’s who you see, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen. It’s going to be very awkward and might feel uncomfortable a bit.

“It’s going to be strange to see him on the other sideline,” Tebow said. Coach Meyer, Tebow, and Mullen have all had such a close relationship over the years, including both National championships. But Meyer and Mullen go back in time, not just coaching at Florida. Both of them worked together in 1999 at Notre Dame, and also when Meyer left to coach at Bowling green in 2001, that’s when he made Mullen a coach there with him. So they have been real successful while working together throughout the years. Who honestly thought they would ever split up from all of the success? But last year around Christmas time is when Mullen took the head coaching job at Mississippi State but still had the heart to coach on the sidelines at Florida and during the National championship against Oklahoma which was his last game.

It’s going to be a great match up Saturday. I don’t think it’s going to be a real blow out to be honest. Mullen knows what Florida runs and knows what they need to prepare for and Meyer thinks he knows what Mullen is going to run. So it’s going to be real interesting.

Tebow became closer to Mullen ever since his freshman year, and I know Mullen thinks its going to be some what difficult coaching against him. They have accomplished too much together and created such a bond. I’m sure before and after the game the three of them are going to say hello, shake hands and have a little chat. But what ever the score is at the end of the game Saturday, the three of them are still going to be close friends.

Gators Overtaken by Bama in AP Poll, But Top the BCS poll

Posted by admin on October 19th, 2009   No Comment

The new BCS rankings are out for week 8 and the Florida Gators sit right on top at the No. 1 spot, even after the nail biting win against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday.

The top three teams features Florida (.988), Alabama at No. 2 (.952), and the Texas Longhorns (.891) sitting as No. 3. Boise State who is now ranked fourth has been a big surprise this year, but I honestly think that their National championship hopes are very doubtful.

The Gators are ranked No. 1 in both the BCS poll and USA today poll but Alabama took the first spot in the AP poll with 39 votes, leaving Florida with 20.

Florida really survived a scare over the weekend. I thought I was going to have a heart attack to be honest with you. Arkansas played their heart out and they deserved the win. Florida just seemed like they didn’t want it. But I mean, four fumbles and the absence of Brandon Spikes doesn’t help them much.

If you look at the Gators remaining games, they should pull them off and remain on top in the standings at the end of the season. They still can’t overlook Georgia or FSU though. If both Florida and Alabama go undefeated for the rest of the season, look for them to play each other in the SEC championship game which will be the deciding game to see who will be playing on January 7th in Pasadena, Calif.

Florida has their first real test as the No. 1 BCS team this Saturday when they travel to play Mississippi State at 7:30 pm.

No. 1 Florida VS Arkansas Preview

Posted by admin on October 17th, 2009   No Comment

The Florida Gators will be led by quarterback Tim Tebow tomorrow against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Tebow is currently in second place in the SEC all-time for rushing touchdowns, trailing right behind former Georgia RB Herschel Walker. Tim is only one shy of tying his rushing touchdown record, and it will be done for sure by the end of the year.

One of the keys to winning this game tomorrow is Florida must shut down Arkansas running back Michael Smith. I know last year he tore the Gator defense up, rushing for over 130 yards on 20 carries. But I don’t think Spikes is going to allow that tomorrow in the Swamp. No way that’s going to happen. But Smith is still questionable whether he will be able to play or not. He is still battling a hamstring injury, but either way Florida will still be preparing for him.

Florida has won seven consecutive games against Arkansas. Their all-time record against them is 7-1. Let’s hope the Gators can continue there win streak and look to extend it to 16 after tomorrow. Here are some details for the game.

Gators Tame The Tigers 13-3

Posted by admin on October 11th, 2009   3 Comments

It wasn’t a fancy win last night but it still gave Florida the W on their schedule. Two weeks after suffering a concussion, Tim Tebow played and proved that he was healthy, focused and ready to help guide Florida back to the National Championship road. But it was the defense that put on a show.

The record setting of the most attendance ever in Tiger Stadium at 93,129 still had no affect against the Gators what so ever. Florida’s defense was magnificent and was a huge reason why they got the win last night. Florida kept the pressure on LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson, sacking him five times Saturday night. Along with the well played defense, Joe Haden collected an interception at the end of the first half.

Tim Tebow did exactly what he needed to do to carry Florida over the top. He only threw the ball 16 times and completed 11 of them for 134 yards and a touchdown pass to roommate Riley Cooper, but the Gators running game really stepped up and made big plays. They ran the ball more than I expected last night. Tebow carried the ball 17 times for 38 yards which surprised me a bit. I wouldn’t think he would run as much after coming up the concussion, but I forgot…. It’s Tim Tebow. He’s one of the toughest players out there. Jeff Demps contributed big last night, rushing 16 times for 86 yards and back up Emmanuel Moody ran for 42 yards on only 6 attempts. Aaron Hernandez led the Gators in receiving with 70 Florida’s offense struggled a bit and failed to capitalize on several drives, including a missed field goal.

Jefferson never could get anything going on offense because of the Gator pressure they brought every single play. What you saw last night on defense is a big reason why they stay at the top at No. 1. ESPN experts before the game said that if they play great defense, then they were going to win. Even if Florida played without Tim Tebow, it would come down to how the defense plays. Brandon Spikes led the team with 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Gators had this game circled on their schedule and now they can cross this one out and look forward to the homecoming game against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, October 17 in Gainesville.

Tebow Returns To Practice, But Not Cleared To Play

Posted by admin on October 6th, 2009   No Comment

Quarterback Tim Tebow returned to practice today after sitting out all last week so he can recover from the concussion he suffered against Kentucky.

Tim was suited up in full pads but was limited on what he could do. He did do the full speed drills like he always has done but there was no contact involved. But that’s almost always like that with quarterbacks anyways in practice. Tebow has been cleared to practice with the team but has not yet been cleared to play against No. 4 LSU this Saturday. Doctors stood near by to watch over Tebow closely to make sure he is not receiving any symptoms or anything.

Reports have shown that Tebow has been making all positive progress in practice, and also in the memory testing that he took. So far all of the signs look good for Florida. They are waiting on Tim to rise at a certain level in order for him to move up in his participation.

Tim will have tests done tomorrow to see if he has made even more progress and to see how close he is to being cleared to play against the Tigers.

Stay tuned here at Gator Sports Nation to find the latest updates on Tim Tebow’s status.

LSU Fans Sending Gators Cocky Texts, Calls

Posted by admin on October 6th, 2009   1 Comment

Only four days left until the big SEC match up between the Gators and No. 4 LSU and already are the Tiger fans taunting the Florida players. Not through facebook or myspace, but through texting and cocky phone calls.

John Brantley, who can be a possible start for Saturday’s game told the media that he received several texts that he had no clue who’s numbers they were. Of course they are going to be LSU fans. But not only Brantley, but Riley Cooper and offensive coordinator Steve Addazio have both been getting phone calls and text messages from Gator haters, trying to mess with their head and possibly do anything that could keep affect how they play on Saturday. But I don’t think its going to work for them…. Sorry.

“They haven’t been bad,” said Brantley, Who has been preparing in practice to get ready just in case Tebow is not cleared to play. “It’s just a little annoying.”

Tebow has this same problem about two seasons ago when they suffered the loss to LSU 28-24. After a touchdown pass in the first half, Tebow acted like he was calling someone on his phone. The way Tim reacted was pretty funny but the score of the game was not.

“They didn’t get me,” cornerback Joe Haden said. “It’s pretty bad, though. They had my boy Coop. They got him pretty good. I was chilling with Coop and he was just laughing about it.”

Brantley and Cooper both receive texts after texts, voice mail after voice mail. I am sure they are tired of it and it is something they both are going to have to deal with, but I do think they both are thinking to get a new number. But its college football rivalry, its going to happen.

The players are taking it well though, the smartest thing to do is just simply ignore it, have your laugh in and just don’t reply.

Tebow Is Better, But Still Not Cleared To Play

Posted by admin on October 5th, 2009   No Comment

Florida has had their calenders marked for this upcoming Saturday the moment the date was announced, but they were not expecting to possibly be without their heart and soul Quarterback, Tim Tebow. With only 5 days left until the Gators travel to Baton Rouge, Tebow has not yet been cleared to return and face the Tigers this weekend.

Good signs are showing that Tim is no longer suffering from any headaches or any concussion symptoms. Matter of fact, it has been several days now since he has had any minor headaches. Tebow is doing just about anything besides practicing right now. He sat out again in Today’s practice. He can now do several things including watch some TV because earlier in the week he wasn’t allowed to do anything that made him focus. No computer, using the cell phone, nothing. Tim has been taking tests that dealt with his memory and they all came out positive. So that is a good note.

There is no telling if Tebow will be able to practice this week but he still has a chance to play but that’s if he is cleared before Saturday. It’s going to be difficult for Tim to not practice at all and show up Saturday and expect to do well against a great LSU defense, so its still a little early to tell if he is ready to go.

“I can’t answer that,” Meyer said. “Can Tim play quarterback at Florida against a very good defense without practicing? I don’t know that. It’s going to be as we move on.”

But if I had to say, I think he should be ready by at least Thursday.

Coach Meyer told the media that the day Tebow is cleared, he will let everyone know and not keep it a secret. I have heard people talk about how Meyer is keeping it to the team so the LSU coaches don’t find out and so that they prepare for Brantley and what not. Well that’s not true. Even without Tebow on the field Saturday there is still going to be other weapons that’s looking to do some damage.

Keep an eye out for the latest updates on Tebow here on Gator Sports Nation

Tebow’s Concussion Was First Of His Career

Posted by admin on September 29th, 2009   No Comment

Quarterback Tim Tebow suffered from a concussion against Kentucky on Saturday night late in the third quarter and it has been revealed that it was his first and hope to be the last concussion he ever has to deal with.

Head coach Urban Meyer said that Tebow was suppose to have tests done Today to tell the amount of time he could be missing and if he will be returning for the LSU game or not. Practice started at 4 pm for the Gators, Tebow was some where around the Florida facilities but will not show up at practice.

A couple months ago, every player took these tests that deal with some type of brain processing technique, test your balance out and equilibrium standards. These help the doctors decide if the player will be ok to return from suffering a concussion, and that is exactly what they are doing with Tebow now, using the tests he did back in June and figuring out whether he will be able to face the Tigers or not. I hope he is even lucky to play another game his senior year. I would rather him sit out the LSU game to recover more then toss him in on October 10 and make it worse. Tim has been eating and talking but he still is getting minor headaches.

Tebow never sustained a concussion before. Not throughout his collegiate career at the University of Florida, nor high school. His high school coach even said he never suffered once from a concussion.

Tim spent Saturday night in the Lexington, KY hospital after striking his own teammate Marcus Gilbert’s leg after he was being driven into the ground. He was released early Sunday morning and taken back to Gainesville, now preparing to find out the outcome of his injury.

Gator Nation please keep Tebow in your thoughts and prayers.
