The Gators came into the SEC championship game as the best in the land at number 1 to face a tough NO. 3 Alabama team, but it did not stop them from coming out on top.

Megan Bush had an outstanding at bat with all the fouls balls that were put off, totaling up to an 15 pitch at bat which then led into a grand slam that made the impact in the Gator victory 8-5.

The lady Gators have stretched their winning streak out to 21, coming to an overall record of 55-3. Florida pitcher Stacey Nelson struggled a bit early on in the game but found a way later to shift the Gators to victory.

When Alabama scored their two runs in the top of the first inning, Florida knew they had it coming and they couldn’t lighten up one bit. So after two Gator hits and a walk, Megan Bush sent a ball out of left field for a grand slam to put the Gators on top 5-2. But Nelson struggled in around the 5th inning when she gave up the home run to SEC player of the year Charlotte Morgan who put a ball over the score board that gave Alabama life back. The Gators last run in the bottom of the sixth was an RBI single by Bruder who sent Lauren Heil home.

Alabama did not quit at the end. Alabama led off with a single and then the next couple batters were put on by Nelsons walks which loaded the bases with no outs. The Crimson Tide added two runs to the board but had two outs. Nelson struck out the last batter to end the game and the Gators were now called the 2009 SEC champions.

Stacey Nelson is now (35-3), she gave up three runs and five hits and eight strike outs. Still an excellent performance by the young lady.

The MVP of the SEC tournament was given to Hilberth.
