A few weeks ago, Gator Nation was unsure whether (6-0, 210) 2010 DB commit Matthew Elam was solid on commitment or not. Other than Florida, he had some interest in Tennessee, FSU, and West Virginia.
Elam took a visit to Tennessee but ended up not liking it very much, so he pretty much scratched that one off his list. His most interest though was West Virginia. Gator fans thought almost for sure he was going to decommit and sign as a Mountaineer. But it didn’t happen.
It took a few hours of talking with head coach Urban Meyer over the phone to decide Gainesville was where he really wanted to be. The reason why he wasn’t satisfied with Florida was the depth at his position which would lead him with no playing time for the next few years. But with this kids talent, he has the capability of competing with any DB out there.
Elam told the media that he committed for a reason and he is not going to back down. His text messages were also signed as #22 UF Bound. But right now, Elam is a Gator and Gator Nation should have nothing to worry about. He’s a keeper.
Gator Sports Nation caught up with Elam and he answered a few questions for us.
GSN:What is the biggest reason for your interest in attending UF?
Matt Elam:My relationship with Urban Meyer.
GSN: What makes Urban Meyer different from other head coaches?
Matt Elam: He is real upfront & he is like family to me.
GSN:What made you want to reconfirm your commitment to Florida?
Matt Elam:I sat down & had a talk with my family & Coach Meyer
GSN:With Florida’s depth at your position, how are you going to go about improving yourself so that you can get some action?
Matt Elam:Just work my tail off & show the doubters i have what it takes to get to the top.
