Following a win against Oregon (5-7) and their first American Lacrosse Conference victory over No. 14 Penn State (7-4), this weeks Inside Lacrosse poll has the Gators at No. 20, its very first national ranking. Two freshmen, Ashley Bruns and Sam Farrell, also garnered Player of the Week recognition for their performances.

Bruns, Florida’s leading scorer, had three goals and three assists against Oregon and four goals and two assists against Penn State. She was named Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week as well as WomensLax.com, WomensLacrosse.com, and American Lacrosse Conference Rookie of the Week for her outstanding performance.

On the other side, Farrell was named the American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She was tasked with marking two of the leading scorers on their respective teams, the Ducks’ Jana Drummond and the Nittany Lions’ Jen Steadman. Farrell held Drummond to just one goal and two shots and did not allow a single shot from Steadman.

After a week in the friendly confines of Dizney Stadium, No. 20 Florida now heads to New York to face Le Moyne (7-3) and Colgate (6-6) before returning to Gainesville to face No. 10 Vanderbilt (8-3) on April 18. If you haven’t yet, be sure to catch Florida Lacrosse in this, their final home match of the Gators’ inaugural season.
