By now, we all know that Florida will be the favorite in all of their games. Most of Florida’s schedule will come into a cool Fall Saturday a heavy underdog. There are however a few games that Urban Meyer will have to get his players on edge. Florida’s focus has improved consistently every year under Meyer and a large part Charlie Strong’s leadership.
2005: Facing a team with less talent, and a less than hostile road environment Florida lost to the Ole Ball Coach in Columbia. A win would have sent Florida to Atlanta in Meyer’s first year. Instead SC’s running back Mike Davis had a day that he never duplicated in his career.
2006: Florida’s loss to Auburn in Jordan-Hare came down to two plays. A dropped punt by Eric Wilbur that was blocked and returned for a touchdown and the “Throw-No-Throw” by Chris Leak, two sloppy plays that beat Florida when Auburn didn’t.
2008: The Ole Miss game will now be forever immortalized by Tim Tebow’s after game speech. During the game Florida gave up more turnovers in that one game than they had all year up to that point. It was a strange loss in the Swamp. Witnessing it I had an uneasy feeling from the time I dropped the tailgate. I have to put a lot of this loss on the Florida fan base. There should never be empty seats regardless of the start of the game for a SEC matchup in the Swamp. You could tell this is one Houston Nutt wanted, a win in the Swamp against an undefeated Florida team would put him right back on the map in a big way. He didn’t disappoint.
Now the Three games that just might sneak up on the defending champs this year:
3.) Arkansas, October 17th
How would that happen:
Don’t let Arkansas’ record from last year give you comfort. Bobby Petrino is a lot of things… I’ll leave you a few seconds to name call… a slow rebuilder he isn’t. The job he did at Louisville is one of the most underrated coaching performances in the last ten years in my opinion. Louisville is as much a basketball school as its rival Kentucky and that’s the next point… its Kentucky. The guy can flat coach and recruit.
Yeah…Bobby Petrino… and what army?
The=2 0likes of Michigan transfer Ryan Mallet, Tight End D.J. Williams, Running Back Michael Smith, Wideouts Joe Adams and London Crawford they have more than enough firepower.
What scenario would have to take place for this to happen?
I think if Florida goes into Baton Rouge and finally beats the Tigers under the lights Arkansas at home on homecoming just might spell letdown
2.) Mississippi State October 24th
Come on …. State?
Yes, let the cowbells ring some fear into you. There’s not much that tops a Head Coach’s wish list than beating there old boss in their first meeting. Dan Mullen will have a very young team but here’s the real question… who knows Florida=E 2s offense better than the man that’s been running it for the last four years?
MSU just doesn’t have the firepower… do they?
No, not on offense, but the dogs have won a lot of ugly games in the SEC WEST and keep many more too close for comfort with great linebacker and secondary disguises. Auburn was pretty bad last year but did you ever imagine a 3-2 game last year versus Mississippi State when Auburn was ranked ninth in the country? Finally, most gators on the roster weren’t born the last time Florida won in Starkville.
What scenario would have to take place for this to happen?
An undefeated Florida team going West for a game that would probably be a 12:30 EST (11:30 in Mississippi) might just catch Florida napping for the first half.
1.) Georgia October 31st
Georgia is always a big game, how could they not see this one coming?
Mark Richt is a great coach…. When no one expects him to be. Expectations were so high last year in Athens Richt was faced with one goal, win the BCS. Obviously he didn’t live up to the preseason pollsters. Georgia comes into this season with talent on both sides of the ball and a big change on offense, it’s not the Stafford Moreno show anymore. I think this is a good thing for players who felt un-needed last year.
Can Joe Cox really beat Tebow in his last game in Jacksonville? That is the question. What does Georgia have to lose going into this game? Florida will have everything riding on beating the Dawgs again while Georgia can go into the game playing free and loose. A better offensive line, a more aggressive defensive line, this could be a scary Dawg team come Halloween.
What scenario would have to happen for this to take place?
Not as many factors as you might imagine, For Georgia to win this game it’s going to come down to game day adjustments. A few turnovers and a productive running game could be a major obstacle for Florida.
The economy can’t affect SEC football. Get your tailgate supplies ready now.

I agree that UGA is the biggest pitfall for Florida this year. The Bulldogs are underrated and typically do well when they are “hunting”, not the hunted. Plus, the revenge factor shifts back to their side this year FWIW (and not a lot IMO).
But Miss State at #2? I know Mullen knows Florida’s offense, but that doesn’t mean his team can stop it. Miss St has the least number of returning starters in the conference and going under a huge offensive philosophy change with a first year head coach (i.e. don’t expect a Ga Tech type surprise who had an exp head coach).
Arkansas will be a tougher team than many think. They just look through their “I think Petrino is a scumbag” glasses and don’t see how much success he had at Louisville.
