UF Football: Gators lose to South Carolina, now 5-5 in 2011

The Gators are now 5-5 after a disappointing game featuring big plays & big disappointments.  Brantley just could not seem to get going, Demps & Rainey had some huge runs, and ultimately the Gators were outmatched by the Gamecocks.

After such a promising 4-0 start, the Gators have now lost 5 of the last 6 games. Sure, we can attribute some of that to the most difficult schedule in college football, Brantley getting injured, a new coach & offensive coordinator, etc. But, damn, 5 out of 6.

The Gators simply looked limited yesterday against South Carolina and turnovers spoiled their chances of pulling out a win against an imperfect Gamecocks lineup that has itself been plagued by the injury of star running back, Marcus Lattimore.

UF & USC traded big plays in the 4th quarter and the Gators were in contention, but the Gamecocks controlled the clock, converted and got first downs – leaving UF with only 42 seconds to score a touchdown. A few short passes materialized, but ultimately the Gators fell short and are now 5-5.

Many Gator fans, including this one, are now looking to 2012 with hopefulness & optimism. With Thanksgiving coming up, I guess we should be thankful for what we have – 2 rings and a young team?

Brantley: 13 for 21 for 119 yards, 3 sacks, 0 TD’s

Rainey: 17 rushes for 132 yards

Demps: 9 rushes for 33 yards
