The Senior Quarterback Jinx

Once again, the Gators’ will be led by Tim Tebow, who will have his last campaign in college this season. With his decision to remain a Gator and not enter the NFL Draft, a long existing jinx popped up in Gainesville. But what exactly is this jinx? The Senior Quarterback jink.

The jinx has been around since the BCS era began back in 1998. Simply put, whenever a Junior Quarterback wins the National Championship (which Tebow did), and returns for his Senior year (which Tebow did), the Quarterback will not win the title as a Senior. Here’s a quick rundown of the Quarterbacks who have fallen under the curse:

2005 – Matt Leinart (USC)

2003 – Craig Krenzel (Ohio St)

2002 – Ken Dorsey (Miami)

2001 – Chris Weinke (Florida St)

So will Tebow be the next Quarterback to fall under this spell? Hopefully not,  but looking at the list, I really hope he doesn’t because all of the QB’s mentioned above have had poor (actually very poor) NFL careers. With Tebow leading the Gators, there is no better person to overcome this jinx then Tebow, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

**Note** The last Senior Quarterback to win in both Junior and Senior year was Tommie Frazier from Nebraska back in 1995
