Florida Gator All-American linebacker Brandon Spikes is still held questionable whether or not he will be able to play Saturday against Mississippi State.
Spikes injured his groin early in the first quarter in the 23-20 win against Arkansas last Saturday. He also has kept his practicing very limited.
“He’s 50-50, maybe a little better than that,” Meyer said.
He has been through Achilles tendinitis all season long this year and now is suffering from a sore groin. You could kind of tell the production of Spikes during the games. Still one of the toughest players in the Nation, these kind of injuries still have an affect on how they play, as you can tell throughout the last few games. Spikes has 32 tackles and 3 sacks through six games this season.
If he can’t play this Saturday, then Ryan Stamper will be the one to replace him at the middle line backer position. That’s exactly what they did early in the Arkansas game.
Along with possibly missing Spikes, Florida may miss three other top defensive lineman this week. DE Justin Trattou [bicep tendon] and is confirmed that he will not play this weekend, and the way it looks for DTs Jaye Howard and Lawrence Marsh, they both probably will be sitting out as well.
Meyer was asked if the defensive lineman depth was a concern this Saturday, he said sarcastically “Ya think?”
If any other news on these injuries are updated, GSN will keep it posted.
