Florida Gator sophomore running back Chris Rainey carried the ball just one time but managed to gain 76 yards out of it in the 62-3 blowout against Charleston Southern on Saturday. Not bad to look at your stats after the first game and see you are averaging 76 yards a carry.
But that really doesn’t matter to him. What he wants is more carries. His first and only run on Saturday had a lot to do with his speed and the gaps he found with his sneaky moves, and by the time he got in the end zone it looked as if he was dead beat tired. I was wondering why I started to see a few Charleston Southern players trail right behind him before Rainey took it to the house. That 76 yard run just sucked all his gas out at the end. But that is not why Rainey didn’t see another carry I’m sure. I think it had to do with getting both Moody and Gillislee in the game but I was still surprised that he didn’t carry the ball besides the one time. Here is what Rainey had to say after the game.
“I wish I could have had at least two more carries or something like that,” Rainey said. “But you got to be a team player around here or something.”

I agree with Rainey. A speedster like him should carry the ball more. Think what he could do the next two years with more experience. Turn him loose for crying out loud.
