Meyer Says He’s Ready To Go

Urban Meyer’s words to mike bianchi from the Orlando Sentinel: “I feel good and I’m ready to go.”

The Gator nation was rocked in January with Urban Meyers announcement that he needed to step down as the head football coach at the University of Florida. Then even stranger and what I felt potentially more damaging was his reversal and saying I will stay but give most coaching duties to Steve Addazio. What the heck is this all about??

My initial thought was to tell Urban thanks, but no thanks and here is why. A lot of times when coaches have indecision it can cause extreme turmoil especially around recruiting time. I thought if Urban keeps jumping on and off it would cost us our entire off season recruiting as well as hurt what we have built already. I was thinking hey lets get a guy like Chris Peterson from Boise State who has built a heck of a program without a big time name surrounding it. I mean before he got there I don’t think most of us had heard of Boise State, now it seems every year they keep getting better and we all know who they are.

This brings me to present day in the Gator Nation. Urban Meyer saying he was going to stay and actually seeing him get involved and start taking control of this team again were two totally different things. I am glad he chose to take off the few months that he did. That he decided to relax a little while and spend time with Shelley and the rest of his family. He seems to be refreshed and after a 20 year coaching career and a head coaching record of 96-18 he deserved the break he finally received.

Urban is back and starting to take control again so rest assured Gator Nation this Gator team will be as good if not better than what we have come to expect. The amount of talent they have secured in the last 2 years, that hasn’t played yet, would be the makings of a top 25 team. Throw in the returning starters from last year and don’t be surprised if we are back on track for another championship run.

Sorry, but I have to call you on what you said above.

For your information, and in spite of what those hacks at the “Slantinel” think, Coach Meyer is NOT a “job flip-flopper”! So what if he retracted his earlier decision to resign – luckily he did that before everything became final and when he came to realize what negative implications could have come to Florida football had he decided to walk away for good. IMHO He made the right decision to come back, despite the wishful thinking of those who despise him or the well-outnumbered few who still want SOS to come back.

Kindly tell me exactly how “damaging” it was when Meyer decided to come back and put Addazio in charge while he took his LOA. As far as I see it there was no damage done, especially where bringing in the #1 ranked recruiting class for 2010 is concerned and the fact that we didn’t suffer drastic attrition post-season based on the total number of underclassmen declaring for the NFL draft. I’ll be expecting your answer.

Again I need ot call you out.

How in the HELL are these “two totally different things”? How has he ever NOT been involved with this team and not been in control? Even though he was on a leave of absense, he still maintained some influence on what went on, especially where recruiting and the hiring of replacements to his staff were concerned. Even though he scaled back his duties somewhat and wasn’t in the office, he was, and still is, in charge of the Gator football program.

It seems to me you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
