IDENTIFYING UGA’S KARMA IS EASY AS 1-2-3

Revenge is best served cold, especially when the Gators and Dawgs battle it out for the SEC East.

November 1st is finally here, and those who have grown up wearing the orange and blue or the red and black know that the hype has probably never been this high. Coming up on the most anticipated weekend in the Cocktail Party’s history, the Florida/Georgia rivalry has now elevated to its peak.

Both teams come into this contest ranked in the top ten looking to take a trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship. If this year will be anything like last year’s border clash, we’re in for quite a performance.

The 2007 Fla/Uga game started off with a Patrick Swayze flashback, involving some Dirty Dancing, after a Knowshon Moreno two-yard touchdown run. The entire Georgia bench stormed the field and literally danced for what seemed to be a very long 45 seconds for Gator fans.

The Bulldogs ended up winning the game 42-30 and beat the Gators for the third time in 18 years. But it’s now 2008, and the sweet smell of karma is filling the air in Jacksonville, FL.

In the past week, the Florida Gators have responded to any questions about the excessive celebration with “no comment” or “I don’t want to get in any trouble.” If you’re not good at identifying a motivated team, well then I recommend taking a closer gander.

It may seem that the Gators forgot all about the incident from last year and are moving on; that’s probably what the entire Georgia roster wishes. Don’t be so naïve.

If you’re a fan of Urban Meyer, you’ll probably remember what his famous quote was over the summer. “It will forever be in the mind of Urban Meyer.” By “it” he means Georgia coach Mark Richt’s decision to influence his players to do something that is illegal in the game of football. You better believe Meyer is ready to make a statement and swing back. But he’ll do it with a more professional approach.

While at the University of Florida, Urban Meyer has recruited to be what is now arguably the fastest team in America. He plans to unleash Florida’s speed and make the Dawgs look like newborn pups; in other words helpless.

Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow has the most athletic supporting cast in all of college football. In alphabetical order they go from Jeff Demps to Percy Harvin to Chris Rainey. In Chronological order, according to Jersey numbers, they are 1-2-3: Harvin # 1, Demps #2, and Rainey #3.

When these speed threats come out of the backfield, they combine an average of 8.4 yards per rush. Demps leads the nation in yards per carry with 11.9. Yes, I said rushing not receiving. Now with two true tailbacks, Harvin can be let loose in the open field as a wide receiver, causing much more damage and much more havoc for opposing defensive coordinators.

WR Louis Murphy, WR Brandon James, WR Carl Moore, WR Riley Cooper, WR Deonte Thompson and TE Aaron Hernandez accompany the speedy trio. This makes it nearly impossible for the Georgia defense to key in on any individual player. That’s only if Florida can establish a ground game. If the Gator offensive line can win the battle in the trenches, it ought to be a long day for the flea coats.

The Gator offense is finally rolling, throwing up 151 points against the past three opponents. If the Gators can have another balanced rushing and passing attack, the scoreboard operator may be cramping at the end of the night.
