Coach Urban Meyer thought he had a new star heading to Gainesville when five star recruit from Dwyer Matt Elam committed to Florida during last fall. Elam who is ranked as the No. 13 overall prospect in the country by rivals, apparently is now looking open to other schools.
Elam is looking around right now, keeping more of his options open. Matt will be taking a visit to Tennessee this weekend and then he will head to Tallahassee to visit at FSU the following weekend. Not to mention last week Elam took a visit to Morgantown to visit Bill Stewart and the West Virginia Mountaineers, really caught his attention and is one if his top choices.
He also has some interest in USC, Texas, and Virginia Tech.
Elam told reporters that he just doesn’t want to de-commit because he really doesn’t want to cause a lot of trouble, but he is going to look around.
The media asked if Elam was able to sign with someone right now, who would it be? His response was:
“Probably West Virginia,” he said. “It’s crazy, huh? That’s how it is.”
The reason why he isn’t real happy with Florida is because of their depth. He doesn’t think he will be gaining any playing time anytime soon upon his arrival in Gainesville. If you look now, he will be competing with Major Wright and Ahmad Black who will be seniors, Will Hill and he would be only a junior, then look at Josh Evens as only a sophomore, and then Dee Finley as a freshman. So I could actually see why he wouldn’t be happy with his commitment.
Elam is one of the 16 class of 2010 players who committed to the University of Florida football team.
