Gator fans, I have some tragic news. Former Florida Gator safety John Curtis passed away at age 24 on Wednesday. I spoke to Adam Silverstein of OGGOA and he said that right now the authorities think it is a suicide.

Curtis had a tough career at Florida. He started at the University of Florida in 2004 as a member of the scout team and didn’t see any action at all. The next season in 2005, he injured his knee in preseason drills and ended up having to get season-ending surgery in August. During 2006, he saw some time on the field on the kickoff team during six games. The very next season he played in 11 games, recorded seven tackles and blocked a punt on special teams against South Carolina and returned it for 13 yards. But in 2008 is when the bad luck came back. Curtis tore his left ACL over the summer and was sidelined the entire season.

Silverstein reported that Cleveland Browns rookie Joe Haden wrote this on twitter:

“You never know how much you truly love someone until they are gone. R.I.P. John Curtis #24! You will be missed,” Haden said. “Everyone please don’t be afraid to say you love someone! Life is too short! Losing someone special to you makes you realize what’s important in life.”

Then Jacksonville Sharks cornerback Dee Webb wrote on his twitter account:

R.I.P. to my former teammate John Curtis 24,” Webb wrote. “We [will] miss you homey.”

Everybody please keep Curtis and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
