Florida redshirt sophomore WR Frankie Hammond Jr. has been sentenced to a full year of probation, along with a fine added with it as part of a plea deal in his DUI case.
The 20 year old from Hollywood, (FL.) was arrested back on June 13 for driving under the influence on campus, and has been suspended from all team activities ever since.
Hammond has been ordered to pay a $500 fee as well as court costs, spend 50 hours worth of community service and serve a 12-month probationary sentence. His drivers license has also been suspended for six months and he will have to undergo a substance abuse evaluation on top of that.
According to the Gainesville Sun, police found two open bottles of Crown Royal in Hammond’s car after he was pulled over after traveling more than 45 mph in a 20 mph area and swerving all over the road around 2:09 am on Sunday.
Hammond’s, who was suppose to be a huge factor on offense, will be kept on the sidelines for the first couple of games of the upcoming season. Sources have reported that Hammond’s has been practicing and working out with the team.
During the 2009 season, Hammond dressed out in 11 games but did not see any time on the field as a freshman in 2008. He also competed with the UF track team during the spring indoor season in 2010.
Former Florida Gator Carlos Dunlap was sort of in the same boat as Hammond’s is. Dunlap was suspended for the SEC Championship game against Alabama last December due to his DUI arrest and was part of the blame of Florida’s loss that kept them from advancing to the BCS Title game. Dunlap returned for the Sugar Bowl game against Cincinnati.
Hammond is now the 28th arrest since Urban Meyer has been the head coach at Florida.
