The score was 49-10 with less than one-minute left on the clock, and the Gators clearly had the victory against Georgia in the bag.
But Urban Meyer remembered a certain incident that occurred October 27th of last year. No, Urban didn’t send his players to dance or mock the Bulldog bench; he simply called a timeout.
Meyer obeyed the rules of the game while showing class, but he showed no mercy. Meyer used his final two timeouts, in the last minute of the contest, to continue the game and cause agony for whoever was associated with the colors red and black.
Moody ran the ball three straight times to earn two first-downs in that final minute.
Moody finished the day with 71 yards on seven carries and was the Gators’ leading rusher.
In the Florida-Georgia series, 49 points is the second highest score that the Gators have put up against the Bulldogs.
Urban Meyer made a statement and it was a clear one; this football team is for real.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow finished the day 10-13 for 154 throwing two touchdowns.
Tebow’s best pass was a 44-yard touchdown to Louis Murphy.
Percy Harvin caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and also rushed for a touchdown.
Tebow also rushed for 45 yards and three scores.
Tebow broke the rushing touchdown record at Florida, passing Gator great Emmit Smith, with 37. He looks to extend the record within the next couple of weeks.
Gator back-up John Brantley even got in on some of the action today. Brantley finished the day with three completions and threw for his second ever Gator Touchdown to Deonte Thompson.
While the numbers of the Florida offense looked superb, the Georgia offense looked very similar to Don King’s hair: disastrous.
The Gator defense held the Bulldog offense to only 10 points, while causing four turnovers.
Stafford threw three interceptions and no touchdowns. Super sophomore Kowshon Moreno only finshed with 65 yards on the ground and lost a fumble.
Knowshon looked like a No-show against Florida.
This victory for the Gators has gotten them one step closer to the SEC Championship in Atlanta. Vanderbilt and South Carolina will close out Florida’s SEC schedule.
The Gators still remain in the National Championship hunt as well. But the Gators need focus on Atlanta and get their business taken care of.
Georgia will likely take a nice trip to Disney World and enjoy the Capital One bowl in Orlando.
The next 363 days will be very long and painful for the Georgia faithful.
