Florida Gators running back Jeff Demps will have to sit out for a few practices this week due to a bruised foot, but could possibly still be ready by Saturday’s game against No. 1 Alabama.
Head coach Urban Meyer told the media today that Demps is wearing a protective boot on his left foot. Demps originally hurt his foot on September 18 against Tennessee but then re-injured it during the 48-14 win over Kentucky last weekend. Meyer also said that the tests showed no site of ligament damage or broken bones which is an excellent sign.
“I’m hearing positive things about later in the week,” Meyer said. “He actually had an X-ray and a scan on his foot. It’s a sprained foot. It’s not broken, there’s not a stress fracture. I took a deep breath on the sideline when they said we’re going to go take him to get a scan. But it came back negative. Now it’s just we’ve got to get him healthy.”
Demps carried the ball 8 times for 57 yards against the Wildcats.
“I think we are going to have Demps [against Alabama],” Meyer said.
Even if Demps has to sit out this Saturday, Emmanual Moody and Mike Gillislee will be the ones that have to step up and take charge in the backfield.
