Computers aren’t humans. And they’re ruining college football

Computers can’t cry.

They don’t get angry.

And they can’t judge college football.

Here’s why:

Oklahoma, not Texas, will be playing in the Big XII Championship on Saturday. And they’re going despite the Longhorns win over the Sooners.

The Big XII South ended in a three-way tie.

But the battle to advance to the conference title game was between just two teams — and one of them wasn’t Texas Tech.

And that’s where the computers show their complete inability to judge anything on an objective scale.

Let’s face it. College football polling is subjective. But for the most part, human experts have a handle on who is the “best.”

I can’t say the same for computers.

The computer averages have Oklahoma ranked No. 1 and Texas ranked No. 2 — even though the Longhorns beat the Sooners by 10 points on a neutral field.

And then it gets even sillier.

Florida is ranked No. 6 in the computer rankings. That’s right, two places behind Texas Tech and a spot behind Utah.

The Gators are ranked No. 4 in both the Harris and USA Today polls. Florida is No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and even garnered three first place votes.

The computers just crunch numbers.

If Texas would have defeated Oklahoma a week after the Sooners’ crushing of Texas Tech, this problem wouldn’t have existed. Why does Texas’ win mean so little?

Why is Oklahoma playing for the Big XII title?

And why is someone not crying foul over this college football injustice.
