Posted by admin on August 20th, 2011   1 Comment

The Florida Gators volleyball team is less than a week away from the start of the 2011 season. Florida will start off  by facing Boston College on August 26, at 7:30pm in Gainesville, Fl.  Last year the Gators finished the regular season with an overall record of 29-2 and advanced into the NCAA’s regional semifinals. The Gators are No. 9 in the 2011 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Preseason Top 25 Poll. This year’s team is led by five seniors. Kelly Murphy, a 2010 AVCA First Team All-American, Kristy Jaeckel, a 2010 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, Elissa Haussman, Cassandra Anderson (led SEC in blocks with 129) and Stephanie Ferrell who transferred from Hawaii prior to the start of her junior season. As usual, Mary Wise will be looking to get off to a fast start and continue the team’s dominance in the South Eastern Conference.  The Gator volleyball team is dedicated to each other, has worked hard all off season and is looking to advance to the final stages of the NCAA tournament.

Q&A With Kari Klinkenborg

Posted by Staff Writers on August 21st, 2009   1 Comment

The former Florida Gator Volleyball star, Kari Klinkenborg, had her fulfill of success on and off the court. She made SEC Academic Honor Roll multiple times, has the 6th best hitting efficiency in school history for a Sophomore (.338), led team in blocks as a Sophomore (14), and is currently looking to become a model. Recently, you may have seen her appear on the ” T.O. Show ” on VH1, as she was first introduced on the show as Terrell Owens’ on and off girlfriend.

Gators Sports Nation has had a chance to ask the lovely Ms. Klinkenborg a few questions and get her opinions on multiple topics, including the University of Florida.

1. Growing up, what drew your attention to Volleyball? Was Volleyball your favorite sport growing up?

Kari: I always played a lot of sports growing up. When I was in 7th grade my sister played club volleyball and I thought it was so cool and looked up to her and always wanted to be as good as her one day. Then during Middle school volleyball that year, I realized I just loved the sport. Everything about it, I would get so excited every morning when I woke up for school, it could not get over fast enough cause I was so excited to go to practice, and I was never ready for practice to be over, I wanted it to last as long as possible. I really could not get enough of it.

It became such a hobby, I was in love with it from that point on. After school practice I would come home and practice some more in my parents yard in Iowa, I set up a volleyball net in the backyard, I tied the net up to two trees, and played every night till the sun went down. I realized in 7th grade that I was actually pretty good, so from that point on, I decided I was gonna train as hard as I could and do whatever it took to get scholarship to a Division 1 University. I use to play until I was so tired I thought I couldn’t jump anymore, then I’d hit about ten more balls and then run 2 miles, just to prove to myself that I could.

I loved all sports growing up, if I wasn’t so tall I would have been a gymnast, but volleyball was always the sport I loved to play.

2. As a former Gator, how would you sum up your time at the University Of Florida?

Kari: AMAZING!!!! It was the best 5 years of my life, I learned so much about being an athlete, a teammate, a friend, being an adult and just learning who I really was, all while getting a degree, attending FB games and living in a state where you can lay out and get a tan in February…Oh and I learned a lot about TV Production ;) I truly believe that it’s great to be a Florida Gator, not only as a student athlete but as an alumni I am so proud to say that I bleed Orange and Blue.

3. UF was recently ranked the #2 party school. Honestly, how were the parties?

Kari: Well, I can honestly say that I didn’t attend too many parties. Sure we went out occasionally but I never thought that it was that big of a party town….actually I take that back, when we won each national championship, it was the biggest party I’d ever seen! University ave was shut down each time, and I had never, and have never seen a celebration quite like those, and it was a blast to say the least!! :)

4. After your days at Florida, what have you been up to and what are you currently doing?

Kari: Well, I just graduated from UF last Saturday, my plan now is to take a month and spend some quality time with my family. Then I’m making the move out to LA to pursue modeling and TV production. It’s a big move but I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge.

5.Last question, you have had a very successful life, but do you have any other goals or achievements??you want to accomplish?

Kari: Oh I have not even scratched the surface of what I’d like to accomplish. There are so many things personally and professionally that I’d love to do. At the top of that list: be in the SI Swimsuit issue produce a hit TV show, write a book, open a coffee shop, travel the world, learn sign language, have a family, adopt a child, and make a difference in the world, just to name a few :)

There you have it, that concludes GSN’s Exclusive interview with the gorgeous Kari Klinkenborg. We all wish her the best of luck in her modeling career, and her pursuit to accompolish all her goals. The staff of Gators Sports Nation thanks Kari for taking time out of her busy schedule to help us out, and we appreciate her participation in this interview.

UF Ranked No. 2 Party School For 2009

Posted by admin on July 31st, 2009   No Comment

Well Gator Nation… You might want to put down all that beer. The University Of Florida was last years No. 1 party school in the country and what I am shocked about is that they were outvoted by Penn State for 2009, so they finished up as No. 2.

The Princeton Review survey of 122,000 students shows that the new 2009 party school belongs to Penn State which I do not agree with at all. Last visit I made around the Penn State area, I hardly saw any bars or anything around, it looked just like an old boring country placed. Evidently I missed the spots where they have all the fun at. Who knows. But what I do know is that there is no better place to party than <a href=”http://www.gainesvilleflorida.com” title=”Gainesville Florida, Alachua County, Florida Gators”>Gainesville Florida</a>. It’s one of the craziest places ever. This is also Penn States first first place finish in history. Here are the results for the top 20 party schools.

1. Penn State University, State College, Pa.

2. University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla.

3. University of Mississippi, Oxford, Miss.

4. University of Georgia, Athens, Ga.

5. Ohio University, Athens, Ohio

6. West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va.

7. University of Texas, Austin, Texas

8. University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis.

9. Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla.

10. University of California-Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, Calif.

11. University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo.

12. University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa

13. Union College, Schenectady, N.Y.

14. Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.

15. DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind.

16. University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn.

17. Sewanee: The University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn.

Lady Gators No. 8 in Pre-season Polls

Posted by admin on August 8th, 2008   No Comment

The Lady Gators come in ranked #8 to start the preseason polls. This past year in the NCAA Tournament, they went to the regional semifinals and lost. This year, they are looking to do further damage in the Tournamanet. Final Four possibilities are definitely on the look out this year, and they could be looking for National Championship acquantances also. They feel like they have a good shot at it as well. To round it off, this is also the 12th time that Florida has garnered a spot in the top 10 preseason wise.

The top 8 looks just like this:

1. Penn St
2. Stanford
3. Texas
4. USC
5. California
6. UCLA
7. Nebraska
8. Florida

Time will tell how Florida starts their season, its not going to be easy….especially playing a tough schedule.
