Gators Could Lose Several Players To NFL Draft

Posted by admin on November 19th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gator head coach Urban Meyer said he counted seven juniors that are the NFL type and could possibly leave for the 2010 draft which could be a complete nightmare for recruiting.

Carlos Dunlap and Joe Haden are the two that could be a early first round pick. Dunlap’s parents said that being drafted first round is hard to pass up. And for Haden, he already said he plans to file all paper work to petition for an NFL draft evaluation. By the performance of both Haden and Dunlap, there is no doubt in my mind they are first round prospects for the 2010 draft.

“I count seven juniors that are NFL quality players,” Meyer said. “I haven’t really done the research, I’ll help them with it if I’m asked. But that’s seven, so you have to get seven (commitments) to fill those seven. And right now with all the early commitments, you’re kind of hanging on.”

We already know two out of the seven players that could possibly be drafted because they are also the most obvious, but Meyer really hasn’t called out any names on the other five.

4 star CB Joshua Shaw commits To Florida

Posted by admin on November 18th, 2009   No Comment

Four-star CB Joshua Shaw who is from Palmdale, CA is the No. 23 recruit in the Nation, has just committed to the University Of Florida on Tuesday.

Shaw stands at 6’1 195 lbs. and has received several offers from schools such as Ohio State, LSU, the USC Trojans. He took an unofficial visit to Florida a couple of weekends ago when they took on the Vanderbilt Commodores. USC really tried to get him to commit but he said his choice to commit to Florida is solid which is what Gator fans like to hear. He said that he is a man of his words. Shaw also said that Florida fits the best for him and he likes how they play true freshman.

During his visit at UF, his parents sat down and had meetings with head coach Urban Meyer and talked about a future for Shaw as a Florida Gator. He is ready to enroll next spring and hopefully get to play in the 2010 season. Something very interesting that was gathered from OGGOA, Shaw and five-star recruit DE Ronald Powell (Moreno Valley, CA) said they would like to attend the same school and room together as freshman. Powell is deciding on whether he should commit to Florida or his hometown Trojans. This is a big deal for Florida if they can reel this kid in.

Haden To File NFL Draft Paperwork

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009   No Comment

Florida junior cornerback Joe Haden who is a projected first round pick by several scouts and analysts, told the Sentinel reporters that he expects to file the paperwork for an NFL draft evaluation.

Haden has a ton of talent and there is no doubt in my mind that he could be an easy first round pick for the 2010 draft. He has 50 total tackles, three interceptions, one and three sacks through the first 10 games this season. Head coach Urban Meyer said that Joe is one of the best players in the country, and that’s true. Todd McShay, an ESPN draft analyst pointed out that Haden could probably be the top cornerback in the 2010 NFL draft.

With his speed and talent, Joe can make a solid corner in the NFL.

Moody Injured Against South Carolina

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gator RB Emmanuel Moody broke loose for a 17 yard touchdown run in the second quarter which was his first of the season, but by the end of the game Moody was standing on the sidelines in a boot and on crutches.

Head coach Urban Meyer has reported that Moody has suffered from a sprained ankle but it is not clear how bad it is right now. The best thing for Moody is to rest this whole week and sit out against FIU next Saturday.

Along with Moody, DT Terron Sanders was struck in the back during a play yesterday and was pulled out in the second half and he did not return. His status is still unclear.

More updates will be released here on GSN on both Moody and Sanders.

No. 1 Florida VS South Carolina Preview

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009   No Comment

The Florida Gators looked to continue their streak as they will head to Columbia to face Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks.

Florida is in the middle of the longest winning streak ever in UF history with 19 straight wins and also hold the longest active winning streak in the whole NCAA. They have won three straight against South Carolina and you know Spurrier is going to do what ever it takes to shatter the hopes of this Gator team from another National Championship.

Out of the last 18 meetings between this two teams, Florida has came out on top with the win 17 times. The Gamecocks beat the Gators four years ago in Columbia. Ever since Spurrier took over, he has 1-3 record against his former team. Here are some more interesting streaks:

- Florida leads the SEC in rushing offense with 240.7 and third down efficiency at .451. They are also ranked No. 2 in total offense (438.7) and scoring offense (35.0).
- Defensive wise, the Gators have only allowed eight touchdowns all season long which is the fewest in the Nation. They only allow 10.1 points per game which is also No. 1 in the Nation.
- Florida has allowed only 12 field goals for 91 points. Also the past three weeks, they have collected eight interceptions.
- The Gamecocks are on a seven game home winning streak.

Watch out for:
- Quarterback Tim Tebow, has rushed for nine touchdowns so far this season and also sits at 52 total in his career after breaking former Georgia RB Herschel Walker two weeks ago in Jacksonville.
- Steve Spurrier to be calling all of the plays. Might have to mix some things up a bit.
- Senior linebacker Brandon Spikes is back in action after suspended himself for the eye gouging issue with Georgia RB Washaun Ealey two weeks ago.
- South Carolina will be wearing the camouflage jerseys to honor the military veterans.
- Florida’s senior class has a shot to become the winningest class ever in conference history. They have a current record of 44-6 in SEC play and the record is shared by the 1996 Gators, 1994 Alabama Crimson Tide, 1998 Tennessee Volunteers and 2005 Georgia Bulldogs. Let’s hope they can get the win today so they can make some history.

Game Details:

Location: Williams-Brice Stadium – Columbia, SC
Time: 3:30 pm EST.
T.V- CBS

Florida Gators: Urban Meyer (9-0, 7-0)
South Carolina: Steve Spurrier (6-4, 3-4)

Gator Sports Nations prediction: Florida 38, Gamecocks 17

Gators To Wear New Uniforms VS FSU

Posted by admin on November 12th, 2009   1 Comment

The Florida Gators will end their last game of the regular season with an all new look. It includes new uniforms, gloves, cleats and all.

The uniforms that are made by Nike are also suppose to be around 40 percent lighter than the regular ones they are wearing now or lighter than any football uniform I should say. But not only will the Gators be making this change, schools such as FSU, Virginia Tech, TCU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Missouri, and Miami are also going to change their look for one game to. The uniforms feature special cooling and padding which is pretty neat. Along with the jerseys, the gloves and cleats are also going to be way lighter than what they are wearing now and the gloves have a nice Gator logo printed on them.

The Gators associate athletics director for communications Steve McClain said that they have an agreement dealt with the Nike company that involves Florida wearing the uniforms for the last home game of the season. I think they look decent but it wouldn’t be something I would want my players wearing for the final game, especially Tim Tebow playing his last home game as a Florida Gator in front of all his fans. Why not let Tim wear his traditional blue jersey?

If any other photos are released GSN will post them. I would like to see other angles as well.
