Ingram Wins Heisman; Tebow Fifth

Posted by Staff Writers on December 13th, 2009   No Comment

The Alabama Crimson Tide Running Back, Mark Ingram, has been declared the 2009 Heisman winner. Ingram is a major part of Alabma’s undefeated season, and as Gator Nation should know, he can take over a game on anyday. Against Florida in the SEC Championship game, Ingram piled up three touchdowns in the onslaught of Florida. On the season, he has rushed for 1,542 yards and 118.6 yards per rush. He is the first Running Back to win the award since Reggie Bush in 2005, and only the second one in the last 10 years.

Florida Gator Quarterback, Tim Tebow, had his hope for a second Heisman trophy crushed with last week’s defeat to Alabama, and ended up finishing fifth in the Heisman voting. Tebow had a pretty good year, but was overshadowed by the play of Mark Ingram, Toby Gearhart and Colt McCoy throughout the year. Despite not being able to secure his second Heisman, Tebow can still say that he has one Heisman, which is something that not many college football athletes can say.

Heisman Voting

  1. Mark Ingram - 227 1st place votes
  2. Toby Gerhart - 222 first place votes
  3. Colt McCoy
  4. Ndamukong Suh
  5. Tim Tebow

Breaking News: Florida Loses Another Coach

Posted by admin on December 11th, 2009   No Comment

It hasn’t been long since the Florida Gators lost defensive coordinator Charlie Strong so he could be the new head coach at Louisville, and now there is another one who will not be on the Gator staff for the 2010 season.

Head coach Urban Meyer started to let the prospects who have committed know that wide receiver coach and recruiting coordinator Billy Gonzales has chosen a position with LSU. Meyer told the prospects that he will not be here next year, just hopefully it doesn’t effect the 2010 recruiting class. It’s crazy how Florida has lost two great coaches just 2 months before signing day.

I’m still curious to know why they would leave when they have it made at UF? Maybe this is what happens when you have so much talent, they benefit from all of the success and move on to bigger and better things.

GSN will release more on this soon. Stay tuned.

Tebow Gathers Two More SEC Honors

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2009   No Comment

It has just been a day after nine Florida Gator football players were nominated on the 2009 All-SEC team that were all voted by the coaches who represent the conference, the SEC has declared senior Gator quarterback Tim Tebow has been named the 2009 SEC offensive player of the year and also along with that he was named as the 2009 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the year.

Tebow already won both awards last year, and mainly why he won them again this year had to due with the four NCAA records that were broken.

Tim also joins other former Gator quarterbacks with back to back winners of the SEC offensive player of the year, Shane Matthews (1990-1991) and Danny Wuerffel (1955-1996).

On Tuesday night Tebow was also honored the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is known for the Academic Heisman.

Louisville To Name Charlie Strong Head Coach Today

Posted by admin on December 9th, 2009   No Comment

Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is expected to become the new Louisville coach today.

Strong will be leaving Gainesville and headed to Louisville today and will be announced at a press conference sometime this afternoon. He has also stated that he will return and coach Florida in the Sugar bowl game against Cincinnati on January 1.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Strong said. “I’m going into a great situation where I have a chance to build a program.”

As of right now, Strong said he has no plan to take anybody from the coaching staff with him to help build his football program. This will be the second coordinator in the last year to become a head coach. Offensive coordinator Dan Mullen became the head coach over at Mississippi State right after the 2008 SEC Championship game. Meyer said he was unsure whether Strong would stick to coaching throughout the bowl game since he would be taking a new head coaching spot. Mullen stayed on the coaching staff so he could help Florida through the BCS championship game last season.

Strong has been on this Gator staff for seven years and was definitely one of the top recruiters. Last week in the SEC championship game against Alabama, the Gators defense gave up 490 yards in the devastating 32-13 loss.

He started his career out at Florida back in 1983 when he was just a graduate assistant under Charley Pell’s staff. Then in 1999-2002 he was the defensive coordinator up at South Carolina under Lou Holtz.

It seems like Florida always has assistants leaving and being hired somewhere else. In 2007, coach Urban Meyer had to find a replacement for Doc Holliday when he left to become the West Virginia assistant coach.

We wish Charlie the best at Louisville.

Florida To Play Cincinnati In Sugar Bowl

Posted by admin on December 7th, 2009   No Comment

Well Gator Nation. It’s official. Florida is set to face undefeated Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl on New years day.

This will be the Gators eighth Sugar Bowl appearance, and also the fourth most in bowl history.

The game is set and ready for 8:30 pm and will be shown live on FOX. Here is an interesting fact for you. This is the first time ever that two top five teams have faced in a non-championship Sugar bowl since back in 1977.

“We are very much looking forward to the opportunity to host the No. 3 and No. 5 teams in the country, as well as their fans, for the 76th Allstate Sugar Bowl,” Sugar Bowl President Richard R. Smith said. “Florida and Cincinnati have both had great seasons with thrilling games that have gone to the last minute to preserve their place in the Sugar Bowl and we are confident that the 76th chapter in our illustrious history will maintain our tradition of staging the greatest game possible.”

After the 32-13 loss to Alabama on Saturday, Florida dropped from the No. 1 spot to No. 5.

Charlie Strong Denies Louisville Coaching Rumors

Posted by admin on December 6th, 2009   1 Comment

Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong denied rumors late that last night after the loss to Alabama.

The rumors that he was going to interview for the Louisville job is not true Strong said. From what the media all around has been saying, Strong is the leading candidate for the head coaching job and expected to have an interview right after the SEC championship game. But it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

Strong also stated that he has not been contacted by Louisville and has not had any discussions with them either about becoming the next head coach at Louisville.
