Dunkley To Choose From Three Schools

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2009   1 Comment

Five star wide receiver Chris Dunkley out of Pahokee, Fla. is preparing for the Under Armour All-America Game on Saturday, and is also going to announce his decision to the public between three schools.

“Everyone is even,” Dunkley said. “It’s Florida, Alabama or Georgia.”

There are several rumors spread around that Dunkley is favoring the Gators but he has not said anything because he is waiting until Saturday. Dunkley didn’t seem too shocked when he heard about the news with Urban Meyer. Gator Sports Nation recently had an interview with Dunkley but he refused to talk about anything Meyer related, but I don’t think it should have any effect on his decision.

Dunkley didn’t see much action in practice today due to his injured left hamstring that took place early in practice but he said he is still going to play on Saturday.

Update: Meyer Rushed to Hospital After SEC Championship Game for Chest Pain

Posted by Staff Writers on December 30th, 2009   1 Comment

Now it has been discovered that Urban Meyer was rushed to the hospital after the SEC Championship game not because of dehydration, it was in fact because of chest pains. It was revealed today that the 911 call was about his chest pains, with no mention of dehydration. The 911 call was made by his wife around 4AM in the morning.

GSN will bring more news about this story as it progresses.Urban Meyer

Too Many Questions Surround The Urban Meyer Saga

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2009   No Comment

he craziness of this past weekend has left the Florida football program with a lot of unanswered questions. This has the potential to be a train wreck if not handled properly. The Gators run the risk of a mass exodus by this year’s junior class, defections in this year’s recruiting class, and possible long term recruiting ills that may be tough to recover from. When Billy Donovan made his infamous flip flop, we know that it AT LEAST cost him Patrick Patterson. We can only guess at who else may have passed on UF because of it.

Questions that need answers include:

1. What happens if a year goes by and Meyer’s health has not improved? Does Addazio keep the job as head coach? Do we go after another coach for 2011?

2. What do we do about a new offensive and defensive coordinator? Do we promote from within and hire young assistants to take lower level jobs, or go after an up and coming coach for those positions? When Meyer comes back, what then happens to Addazio?

3. What if Meyer decides 2010 is too soon but would like to come back in 2011? What if 2010 turns out to be an awful season? Can we fire Addazio?

4. What if recruits start bailing? Does Meyer try to come back too soon?

5. Can Meyer learn to take it easier when he does come back so as not to have these health issues again?

6. If he does learn to take it easier, will he be as effective at his job. Is the reason he is among the best football coaches in the game BECAUSE he is so intense and will a more mild Urban be less effective?

7. What does Foley do if the more mellow Meyer isn’t as successful as the previous version? Can you really fire a guy for putting his priorities in order? How do you explain to the fans and boosters that Meyer’s health and family life are more important than winning the SEC?

There is a lot at stake in the coming months for the Gator football program. And it seems that a lot of it is out of the control of Foley and Meyer. But it will keep UF in the news. So it will be interesting.

Shaw Remains Committed to the Gators, Despite Meyer’s Decision

Posted by admin on December 30th, 2009   1 Comment

Even after Coach Meyer decided to take a leave of absence, Joshua Shaw, a committed recruit to the Gators will stay loyal to his word.

Shaw is a defensive back from Palmdale High School in California. He is ranked by Scouts.com to be the third best DB in the nation and a four star recruit. With his great size, blue chip speed and strength, and great agility, Coach Meyer perceived Shaw as a necessity to his team. Meyer recruited Shaw strongly and formed a “father-son relationship” with him.

When the news broke of Urban Meyer resigning as the head coach, Shaw, shocked, stated, “I didn’t believe it.” Shaw knew that his health issue must be serious for him to leave his wonder job. Shaw was immediately concerned with the health of Meyer and at once emailed the coach, and then followed up with a phone call. Shaw said that, “My main thing was just making sure he was OK.” His main priority was to ensure that Meyer was all right. He was not concerned with his own situation, but with Coach Meyer’s.

Shaw and Meyer spoke on the phone and he insured Shaw that he was not going anywhere. He discussed with Meyer and they both agreed that he would not commit nor speak to other schools. Shaw stated at this point that, “I just left it in God’s hands.” The two spoke on the phone again before Coach Meyer’s press conference on Sunday and Meyer basically stated that he was staying actively involved at Florida so therefore, it was safe for Shaw to remain committed to the Gators. This was a positive message for the recruit.

Shaw stated that, all of this worked out great because after the Under Armour game and he was headed up to Gainesville to get situated after orientation on January 4th. Shaw said that, “I just left it in God’s hands and it all worked out and I am 100 percent Gator.”

All in all, Joshua Shaw will remain a Gator even though Urban Meyer is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. We can expect Shaw to be on the Gator practice field come this spring.

A.J Jones and Brandon James to Miss Sugar Bowl

Posted by Staff Writers on December 29th, 2009   No Comment

The Florida Gators will be riding high emotions going into the Sugar Bowl against Cincinatti, but they will be doing so without Junior Linebacker, A.J Jones. He is out with a tear in his MCL, and it will keep him out of the Gators huge bowl game as they try to end the Bearcats’ undefeated run.

In addition to the absence of A.J Jones, the Gators will be without their special teams star, Brandon James. With a stress fracture to his foot, James will be forced to watch his team play from the sidelines.

These two guys are marquee players on the team, and their prescence will certainly be missed. But Florida will be led by Tim Tebow in his final game, and I know that he will do whatever it takes to win this game.

Major Wright Considering The NFL

Posted by Staff Writers on December 29th, 2009   No Comment

The Free Safety happens to be one of the best in the nation, but he’s only a Junior, which gives him another year of eligibility. Perhaps he should stay and build upon his legacy at Gainesville, or he could head on to the spotlight in the NFL. No one knows for sure what Major Wright will choose, but he is considering the option to leave early for the NFL Draft.

Before he makes his final decision, Wright will talk it out with his family. In what is such a big moment in his young life, Wright doesn’t want to make the wrong decision.

Leaving early would give him a paycheck, and he would most likely be a first day pick. But he could get drafted, and then get overshadowed in the NFL, and have his career fall apart.

Staying another year would only improve his draft stock, but puts the risk of suffering an injury into the picture (i.e. Sam Bradford). Whatever Wright decides, he will always be remembered by Gator Nation for his unbelievable hit in the National Championship game against Oklahoma.

Riley Cooper Will Attend Senior Bowl

Posted by Staff Writers on December 28th, 2009   1 Comment

Unlike most Seniors in College Football, Riley Cooper has two options. He can choose to enter the NFL Draft as most of the athletes decide, or he can take the baseball path and join the Texas Rangers’ farm system. After being drafted last season by the Rangers, Cooper decided to remain in college to finish his football playing days. Now, he must decide on which sport to pursue. As of now, he is taking the football route.

The Senior Wide Receiver will attend the upcoming Senior Bowl in hopes of improving his draft stock. Following the Senior Bowl, Cooper will take part in the NFL Combine with many talented players, including a bunch of his Gator teammates.

Cooper’s draft stock is a bit low now, but with a good performance in the Senior Bowl, and as long as he performs up to his level at the Combine, Cooper should be able to bump up his draft stock.
