Dunlap to Decide in a Few Days on Future

Posted by Staff Writers on January 3rd, 2010   No Comment

The starting Defensive End for Florida, Carlos Dunlap, has a major decision to make. Should he move on the NFL, or return to Florida for his Senior year? Dunlap will hold off on the decision for a couple of days as he discusses his future with his family. Dunlap is around the middle of the pack in comparison to the other Defensive Ends in this years draft. In my opinion, Dunlap will most likely leave, but I think he could use another year to improve his draft stock.

It was reported earlier that his teammate, Joe Haden, has chosen the NFL over his Senior year. GSN will track Dunlap and the rest of the Juniors on their decisions, and post it as soon as it is announced.

Joe Haden Declares For Draft

Posted by Staff Writers on January 3rd, 2010   1 Comment

In a not so surpsing news story, Junior Cornerback, Joe Haden, has declared for the NFL Draft. Haden is among many of Florida’s Juniors who are expected to declare, but Haden is the first to do so as of this moment. Haden is expected to be a top 10 pick, and is the #1 Cornerback in this year’s draft, with Alabama Cornerback Javier Arenas as the #2 Cornerback.

In 2009, Haden notched 57 tackles, and had his career high in interceptions with four. In his career, Haden racked up 197 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 8 interceptions. His biggest strength, and what makes him the most dominant corner is his cover skills. He displayed these skills against Cincinatti WR Mardy Gilyard, who is one of the top receivers in the nation, but against Haden, Gilyard was held in check and out of the endzone.

With Haden officially declared, we can only expect more Gators to place there name in the draft in the coming days.

Gerald Christian Has Not Talked To Florida Recently

Posted by Staff Writers on January 3rd, 2010   1 Comment

The 6’3″ verbal commitment to Florida, Gerald Christian, has not talked with the University of Florida since Urban Meyer announced his leave of absence. Since that time, Christian has had contact with Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, and Georgia. Clearly, a lot of teams are in search of convincing the young Tight End to switch sides, including three SEC schools who are most likely using Meyer’s health issues to sway Christian.

He still holds a solid verbal commitment to Florida, and unless he pulls what Matt Elam did, Gator Nation will be seeing Gerald Christian wearing the Blue and Orange heading into spring practices.

Meyer’s Immediate Future Unclear, But Expects To Return

Posted by admin on January 2nd, 2010   No Comment

Shortly after the Florida Gators defeated Cincinnati 51-24 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, during the trophy presentation coach Urban Meyer said that he is uncertain of what his future holds, but he believes he will return to coach the Gators.

“I plan on being the coach of the Gators,” Meyer said.

Meyer’s indefinite leave of absence began today, and offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will now be taking over as the interim head coach.

His decision on when to return could rely on how his family responds. His wife, Shelley Meyer, appears to understand how important Meyer is to the city of Gainesville. Last night she was seen at the game by a friend of GSN’s. Once the crowd began the “Urban Meyer” chant, his wife began to get emotional, and it appears she realizes how much the fans of Florida loves Meyer.

Basically, Meyer needs to get his health straightened out because that is the most important thing in this whole situation. Once he feels he is ready and comfortable enough to take on the task of leading Florida, we can expect to see Meyer back on the sidelines, back where he belongs.

Gator Commits Have An Amazing Day in the Under Armour Game

Posted by Staff Writers on January 2nd, 2010   No Comment

We have already mentioned how Florida received verbal commitments from Chris Dunkley and Dominique Easley, but now we have to tell you how good Florida’s commits performed in the game. First, we will talk about Dominique Easley, who may have played the best defensive game ever in the Under Armour game. He racked up a to of tackles, including a sack. His first big play came when he recovered a forced fumble. He continued to dominate the O-Line throughout the game, and even managed to deflect a pass. He was named the MVP of the game, along with Michael Taylor from the White team.

Now, to the secondary. Safety Demar Dorsey kicked things off with a forced fumble, and followed that up with a huge hit on the first drive. He eventually picked one off late in the game, and returned the ball for about 40 yards. Jonathon Dowling recorded the first touchdown of the game when he picked off a pass, and took it to the house for the game’s first touchdown. But he didn’t stop there. Dowling managed to force yet another interception, his second of the game. Now onto Josh Shaw. He was quiet for most of the game, but made a big interception late in the game, capping off a great performace from Florida’s future secondary. The Dorsey-Shaw-Dowling combo is looking like the Wright-Black-Haden combo that has been one of the best in the nation. The Gator commits have recorded 4 INTs and 3 Forced Fumbles.

Overall, Florida appears to be bringing in a lot of talent to a team that will be losing a lot of talent. It will be interesting to see which of these guys will step right in and make plays as a True Freshman.

Breaking News: Dunkley Chooses Florida

Posted by Staff Writers on January 2nd, 2010   No Comment

Pahokee star, Chris Dunkley, has made his decision. Luckily for Gator Nation, we will be seeing a lot more of this young kid. The 5’11 Wide Receiver has chosen to attend the University of Florida. After he chose the hat, he quickly broke out in the famous “chomping” motion, which only made me more happy to have him on our team.  Dunkley is the #2 WR in ESPNU’s top 150, and he will bring a playing style similar to that of former Gator, Percy Harvin.

Dunkley now joins the #1 recruiting class in the nation, and will help make up for the loss of Matt Elam. Florida has had a HUGE day at the Under Armour All American game. Dunkley’s verbal commitment is major news, and Defensive End Dominique Easley’s decision to join Florida was really shocking, but so big for the future of Florida. Besides the two commitments, Florida has had a lot of their recruits peform very well in the game.

This has been a great way to kick of the 2010 season!

Breaking News: Kenny Shaw Chooses FSU Over UF

Posted by Staff Writers on January 2nd, 2010   No Comment

Wide Receiever Kenny Shaw has decided that the “tomahawk” is better then the “chomp”. The speedy wideout will be attending Florida State following his announcement at the Under Armour All American game. Shaw adds to an already talented list of recruits for the Seminoles, and will be joining Matt Elam, who decommitted from Florida.

We are still awaiting Chris Dunkley’s decision, which should be coming sometime in the third quarter. Stay tuned!
