Q&A With Nick Calathes

The former Florida basketball standout accomplished a great career in Gainesville.  With his Florida days behind him, Calathes made a decision to go pro, but not the traditional way most college players go, Calathes will be going pro in Greece. Nick wasn’t the only one going to Greece, his brother Pat, who played at Saint Joe’s, also will be going with him to Greece. The Lake Howell High School product was selected in the NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but then was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

Career Highlights and Acompolishments

  • 2 Time Florida Mr. Basketball in 2006 and 2007
  • McDonald’s All American in 2007
  • SEC All Freshman Team in 2008 and SEC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2008
  • Led the Gators with 16 points per game and 6.1 assists per game

Do you have any regrets about leaving Florida to play professional ball?
- ” I loved Florida, I couldn’t of asked for a better time. I loved my teammates loved coach Donovan I just thought it was time to take my game to the next level. ”

How was it like playing for coach Donovan for 2 years?
- ” He is one of the best coaches in the country, I loved playing for him.”

Do you and chandler parsons still communicate after you left UF?
- ” Yes, we are best friends.”

Is the game played any different in Greece than it is here in the USA?
- ” Different definitely, it’s a lot more physical.”

What was your most memorable moment as a Florida Gator?
- ” It was getting a scholarship to play at UF.”
