Even after playing a heck of a second half, the Gators could not find a way to get passed the Vols after suffering the 79-63 loss and dropping (5-2) in the SEC.
Florida (18-4, 5-2) had a slow start in the first half allowing Tennessee to jump to a 6-0 early lead and then trailing by 17 at halftime. The Vols (13-7, 4-2) finished up the half shooting 42 percent from the floor.
The Gators found some type of rhythm going in the second half and continued to close gaps in the Tennessee lead, but still the Vols were too much to handle. Nick Calathes made a huge difference in the attempting comeback. Calathes finished up the night with 21 points. Sophomore forward Chandler Parsons was one rebound off from a double-double. Parsons scored 15 points and grabbed nine boards, three out of the nine were offensive. Parsons also had a decent night after shooting six of ten from the floor.
Forwards Alex Tyus and Dan Werner both put up 7 points a piece for the Gators. Tyus grabbed seven boards while Werner collected seven. Freshman guard Ray Shipman played well coming off the bench with 4 points. Tennessee out shout the Gators in the contest. You really can’t say anything else. The Vols really shot the ball well. Scotty Hopson led Tennessee with a career high of 20 points.
Florida will host South Carolina this Tuesday at the O’Connell Center at 9 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
