Baseball: Tommy Toledo back on the hill

Florida Gator pitcher Tommy Toledo returned back on the mound on Wednesday night, throwing one scoreless inning in their 7-3 victory over Florida Atlantic. Toledo has been out due to a injury that was caused by a line drive to the face which caused facial fractures.

“It was probably one of my best feelings I’ve ever had here at Florida,” Toledo stated to the Gainesville Sun.

Back on March 14, Toledo was rushed to the hospital after he took the line drive to the face from Charleston Southern’s Derek Smith. Despite the metal plates that were put in his cheeks, he will not suffer any long-term damage.

“It was a special moment,” UF head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said of Toledo’s return. “The players were excited to get him back out there. As a coach, you get a little choked up. He was chomping at the bit. It was great to see him out there, and obviously he will be a huge part of our success down the stretch.”

I am glad to see Toledo back on the mound, he is going to help the Gators this postseason. He has been battling through injuries, especially after missing last year due to shoulder surgery.
