“I am going to Florida,” Said Coxson. “I am very excited and glad that everything is done.”

Coxson had a few words about his decision and his thoughts on Florida. “I decided a couple weeks ago. I liked Georgia too, it is a good school, but Florida fit me best. I just feel more comfortable there and have for a while.”

Gators Looking Forward to Upcoming Defensive Linemen

Posted by Staff Writers on February 1st, 2010   No Comment

The heart breaking loss versus the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC championship game appeared as if the Gators lost in trenches. Especially on the defensive line. Urban Meyer’s Florida Gators look forward to the rematch in Tuscaloosa this fall with new defensive linemen recruits from the 2010 recruiting class.

As National Signing Day approaches, the Gators look to pick up two 5-star defensive tackles. Even though the Gators are looking to be tough in all aspects of the 2010 depth chart, they appear to be even tougher in the DT position. The two 5-star recruits are Dominique Easley and Sharrif Floyd. Both of the big boys are 6’3 and nearly weigh 300 pounds.

The Gators also picked up the #1 ranked defensive end in the nation, Ronald Powell. Powell played for Rancho Verde High School outside of Los Angeles, California. Benching over 355 pounds, Powell looks to have a successful season as a freshman at the University of Florida.

The Gators lost two of the most valuable defensive lineman this season. Therefore, the upcoming freshman have some pretty large shoes to fill as they suit up in orange and blue come fall. Junior, Carlos Dunlap, decided to declare an early departure for the NFL draft. His counterpart, Jermaine Cunningham, is to graduate this spring. The three recruits look forward to filling the positions that were nearly humiliated during the SEC championship game versus the Crimson Tide.

As the past remains unspoken of, the Gators look into the future of the their program. That football program in Gainesville could be potentially held by those three incoming recruits. “I’m going to Florida because I want to play for championships.” Easley said. In years to come, Florida’s defensive line will be stronger, faster, and they will have something huge to look forward to as the Gators look to bring in the #1 ranked defensive linemen class in the nation come National Signing Day.

Gators Look to Finish Strong with 2010 Recruiting Class

Posted by Staff Writers on January 29th, 2010   No Comment

As Coach Urban declared he would resign from the head coaching job at Florida on December 26th, many recruits made the decision to decommitt from the Gators. Without the Florida football program in the hands of the two time national championship winning coach, many recruits broke their allegiances with the Florida Gators. Coach Meyer took this message seriously and on the 27th of December, he changed his mind and decided to take a leave of absence to spare the loss of recruits. With no definite date when Meyer would return to the Gators and the loss of assistant head coach, Charlie Strong, the near future of the Gators looked to not be on the bright side. This seemed as if it could be one of the worst recruiting classes for the Gators in recent years. Although, it turned out to be that the Gators would come out chomping strong with the number one recruiting class with less than a week from National Signing Day on February 3rd.

Many recruiting specialist doubted the success of Florida’s 2010 recruiting class because of the loss of so many coaches and key players at Florida. Although, Meyer announced he would indeed be returning for the March spring football practices. Because of the return of Coach Meyer, early commits held on to their promises and prospects from around the country started to pour into Gainesville.

With new hope of another successful season in the SEC, Florida has brought in 25 recruits to be the current number one class in the nation. Barry Every of Rivals.com reported, “It is a bit surprising, especially considering the negative recruiting that takes place. But let’s face it, all these kids lived a majority of this recruiting season with the Gators as reigning champs, and most kids want to play for a national championship.”

Despite the negative recruiting taking place against the Gators, Florida has reeled in six recruits in the Rival’s Top 50, four 5-star recruits, and sixteen 4-star recruits. Obviously, the loss of the Gator defensive coordinator and two other assistants has had no negative effect on the recruits interested in Florida. Urban Meyer can be credited with saving the recruits from decomitting and signing on with other schools because of his relationship building skills with the scouts. Come National Signing Day on February 3rd, expect the Florida Gators to have the number one recruiting class of 2010 despite numerous losses in the off-season.

Kadji to Miss Enitire Season

Posted by Staff Writers on January 23rd, 2010   No Comment

The Sophomore Center, Kenny Kadji, will sit out the rest of the season with back injuries. The 6’10″ Kadji  hasn’t been much of a contributor in the season so far, only averaging one point a game in just about 5 minutes per game.

In 2008, Kadji showed a lot of promise. In his Freshman year, Kadji averaged five points per game, two rebounds per game, and played around twelve minutes a game.

GSN wishes Kadji a good, and healthy offseason in his attempt to recover and come back strong next year.

For the second straight game, Junior Forward Chandler Parsons will be getting the start. He is starting over the lone Senior on the team, Dan Werner. The Gators will be taking on the Arkansas Razorbacks tonight in a SEC contest.

As we all remember, Parsons was the man who drained the game-winning shot over NC State. On the season, Parsons is averaging 11 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game.
