Moody Injured Against South Carolina

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gator RB Emmanuel Moody broke loose for a 17 yard touchdown run in the second quarter which was his first of the season, but by the end of the game Moody was standing on the sidelines in a boot and on crutches.

Head coach Urban Meyer has reported that Moody has suffered from a sprained ankle but it is not clear how bad it is right now. The best thing for Moody is to rest this whole week and sit out against FIU next Saturday.

Along with Moody, DT Terron Sanders was struck in the back during a play yesterday and was pulled out in the second half and he did not return. His status is still unclear.

More updates will be released here on GSN on both Moody and Sanders.

No. 1 Florida VS South Carolina Preview

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009   No Comment

The Florida Gators looked to continue their streak as they will head to Columbia to face Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks.

Florida is in the middle of the longest winning streak ever in UF history with 19 straight wins and also hold the longest active winning streak in the whole NCAA. They have won three straight against South Carolina and you know Spurrier is going to do what ever it takes to shatter the hopes of this Gator team from another National Championship.

Out of the last 18 meetings between this two teams, Florida has came out on top with the win 17 times. The Gamecocks beat the Gators four years ago in Columbia. Ever since Spurrier took over, he has 1-3 record against his former team. Here are some more interesting streaks:

- Florida leads the SEC in rushing offense with 240.7 and third down efficiency at .451. They are also ranked No. 2 in total offense (438.7) and scoring offense (35.0).
- Defensive wise, the Gators have only allowed eight touchdowns all season long which is the fewest in the Nation. They only allow 10.1 points per game which is also No. 1 in the Nation.
- Florida has allowed only 12 field goals for 91 points. Also the past three weeks, they have collected eight interceptions.
- The Gamecocks are on a seven game home winning streak.

Watch out for:
- Quarterback Tim Tebow, has rushed for nine touchdowns so far this season and also sits at 52 total in his career after breaking former Georgia RB Herschel Walker two weeks ago in Jacksonville.
- Steve Spurrier to be calling all of the plays. Might have to mix some things up a bit.
- Senior linebacker Brandon Spikes is back in action after suspended himself for the eye gouging issue with Georgia RB Washaun Ealey two weeks ago.
- South Carolina will be wearing the camouflage jerseys to honor the military veterans.
- Florida’s senior class has a shot to become the winningest class ever in conference history. They have a current record of 44-6 in SEC play and the record is shared by the 1996 Gators, 1994 Alabama Crimson Tide, 1998 Tennessee Volunteers and 2005 Georgia Bulldogs. Let’s hope they can get the win today so they can make some history.

Game Details:

Location: Williams-Brice Stadium – Columbia, SC
Time: 3:30 pm EST.
T.V- CBS

Florida Gators: Urban Meyer (9-0, 7-0)
South Carolina: Steve Spurrier (6-4, 3-4)

Gator Sports Nations prediction: Florida 38, Gamecocks 17

Gators To Wear New Uniforms VS FSU

Posted by admin on November 12th, 2009   1 Comment

The Florida Gators will end their last game of the regular season with an all new look. It includes new uniforms, gloves, cleats and all.

The uniforms that are made by Nike are also suppose to be around 40 percent lighter than the regular ones they are wearing now or lighter than any football uniform I should say. But not only will the Gators be making this change, schools such as FSU, Virginia Tech, TCU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Missouri, and Miami are also going to change their look for one game to. The uniforms feature special cooling and padding which is pretty neat. Along with the jerseys, the gloves and cleats are also going to be way lighter than what they are wearing now and the gloves have a nice Gator logo printed on them.

The Gators associate athletics director for communications Steve McClain said that they have an agreement dealt with the Nike company that involves Florida wearing the uniforms for the last home game of the season. I think they look decent but it wouldn’t be something I would want my players wearing for the final game, especially Tim Tebow playing his last home game as a Florida Gator in front of all his fans. Why not let Tim wear his traditional blue jersey?

If any other photos are released GSN will post them. I would like to see other angles as well.

Tebow Climbs Back On Top In Scripps Heisman Poll

Posted by admin on November 6th, 2009   No Comment

After being knocked all the way down to fifth in the Heisman poll after the Mississippi State game, Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow has now worked his way back up to first place after a 41-17 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs which Tebow had four total touchdowns.

Tebow led the Scripps Howard Heisman Trophy poll for the first five weeks but took a tumble after the Mississippi State game, throwing two interceptions that were returned all the way for touchdowns. He now leads in first place and with Alabama running back Mark Ingram trailing right behind him.

Ingram jumped in front of Tebow last week and will have another shot to snag the lead as Alabama will face the LSU Tigers this Saturday. But also Tim Tebow has a pretty big advantage because they are hosting a two win Vanderbilt team in the Swamp.

Tebow also leads in the USA Today Heisman poll.

Spikes Suspended Himself For The Whole Game

Posted by admin on November 5th, 2009   No Comment

Senior linebacker Brandon Spikes made a quick statement to the Gainesville reporters Wednesday by announcing that he is suspending himself for the entire game against Vanderbilt instead of the first half on Saturday because of the eye gouging incident that occurred during the third quarter in the 41-17 victory over the Bulldogs.

“I really don’t want to be a distraction to the team,” Spikes said. “I want the guys to prepare without any negative things going on. I feel like if I would play, it would be a big thing. I’m just trying to stay out of the way and just motivate the guys. I’m pretty sure Stamper’s my back and my teammates really support me on this decision.”

Spikes discussed this with coach Urban Meyer and also his defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and they followed along with his decision.

There is a ton of bad remarks that are being made against Spikes just about everywhere. Blogs, message boards, facebook. He shouldn’t have all of this put on him. Yeah I am a Florida fan and of course I’m going to back him up, but seriously, he shouldn’t. I would say the same thing if it was any other college football player. Brandon is making the right decision and the rest of the team feels the same way.

Not only has Spikes been getting criticized lately, but Meyer has to as well. Urban suspended Spikes for just the first half which was approved by the SEC but others did not agree with it. People thought he should of been suspended for two games. It has been a pretty hectic week for Spikes and I think it should start dying down pretty soon.

The Gators host the Vanderbilt Commodores this Saturday which starts at 7:15 pm.

Ealey Speaks Out On Spike’s Suspension

Posted by admin on November 4th, 2009   1 Comment

Something odd happened that nobody would ever guess, and it involved Georgia’s running back Washaun Ealey.

As everyone knows now, during the game last Saturday linebacker Brandon Spikes apparently tried to gouge the eyes of RB Washaun Ealey after the play was over. It was caught on T.V and posted all over the internet and Spikes was also suspended for the first half of the Vanderbilt game this week.

But Ealey thinks differently about the situation. He was shocked that the play even drew up this much attention the past few days and just thought it was nothing. Ealey spoke with the media and disagrees with the suspension Spikes received.

“That really didn’t matter to me,” Ealey said of the suspension. “That’s their decision. He shouldn’t, I think, get suspended at all. We were just out there playing football.”

Ealey also stated that he had his eyes closed as Spikes placed his fingers in his facemask. He said that Spikes didn’t even get close to his eyes.

This kind of stuff goes on every Saturday in college football. It’s just rare that this incident was caught on T.V and is getting more attention then it really needs. Spikes had no intention to hurt Ealey, it was all emotions from the first part of the game.

The top ranked Gators defeated the Dogs 41-17.

Spikes did issue an apology yesterday.

“I accept responsibility for my actions and I accept the consequences of my actions,” Spikes said. “I would like to apologize to my team and the coaching staff and Washaun Ealey. Football is a very physical and emotional game, but there is no excuse for my actions.
