Dunlap Released From Jail

Posted by admin on December 1st, 2009   No Comment

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap has been released from jail by an Alachua County judge after an overnight stay, and due to some paperwork he is still listed in the Alachua County records.

Dunlap was released by an agreement that that he cannot possess alcohol, illegal drugs or prescription drugs that are not prescribed for him. Carlos is a one time offender and hasn’t had any trouble before. This would be the last thing you would ever think he would do, but people make mistakes.

He could possibly receive deferred prosecution that will allow his charges to be dropped once getting court-ordered obligations.

Gator Sports Nation will release any further information on whether Dunlap will be ready for the SEC championship against Alabama or not, but the way it looks right now it’s very doubtful.

Carlos Dunlap Arrested On DUI Charge

Posted by admin on December 1st, 2009   9 Comments

Breaking news Gator Nation! Florida Gators star DE Carlos Dunlap was arrested overnight for driving under the influence (DUI).

Dunlap was arrested around 3:25 a.m. when a Gainesville cop had responded to a reckless driving call on the 200 block of Southwest 34th Street. The officer had found the Chrysler Dunlap was driving and he was found sleeping at the wheel. He refused to take a breath test which made things worse and he was taken to jail several moments later.

Dunlap was put in the Alachua County jail around 5:52 a.m. for a second degree misdemeanor charge of DUI. Carlos is still in jail as of this moment and no bond has been set just yet.

This is not a good time for the Gators. Not at all. Only four days until the big game when they face No. 2 Alabama in the SEC championship and he makes a bone head move like this.

He has recorded seven sacks so far this year and should be an early first rounder in the upcoming 2010 draft.

Florida vs. Florida State Live Blog/Recap, Final 37-10

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2009   1 Comment

What more can you ask for? The Florida-Floria St. game today will feature everything you can ask for. An interstate rivalry, a farewell from the home crowd to one of the greatest players to ever play college football, and two teams that simply hate each other. Tim Tebow will look to go 4-0 career vs Florida St, and bring home a win in his final game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville. This will also be the final home game for Brandon Spikes and Joe Haden, both of which are headed to the NFL following this season. Florida State will be without their starting QB, Christian Ponder, but are in search of destroying Florida’s dream run. Who will come out on top of this bitter rivalry? Stay tuned to GSN’s Live Blog coverage throughout the game, and give your thoughts on the game as the game progresses.

Something that caught our eyes before the game.

LB Brandon Spikes stopped in end zone and kissed the “R” in FLORIDA during senior day ceremony. Not only is it emotional for just Tebow but it is for Spikes as well.

Senior facts: Senior Class- 47-6 Class record.

1st Quarter:
After a decent kick return by Brandon James, RB Jeff Demps started off the game with a 20 yard run out to their own 46. After converting on third down, Tebow failed to connect on a long ball to Chris Rainey and also a incomplete pass to Riley Cooper on third down which led to a punt down to the FSU 2 yard line with 11:25 on the clock. The Gators defense holds FSU to a punt. Ball out to the FSU 48. After a couple slow plays that ended up leading into a first down, Tebow completes a 20 yard pass inside the 20 yard line to Riley Cooper. Florida scores on a 18 yard inside shovel pass to TE Aaron Hernandez with 6:48 left, 7-0 Gators. FSU returns kickoff out to the 35 yard line. Gators suffer two straight penalties, one resulting in first down for FSU. Gators defense steps up big for the second time this game, Haden makes a huge stop to force 3rd and 8. Will Hill and Carlos Dunlap combine for a sack to bring up fourth down for the Seminoles. Brandon James returns the second punt of the game for no gain. The next play, Tebow hands the ball off to Rainey and resulted in a 45 yard gain. They continue to roll as Tebow’s pass is complete to Demps for another first down. Rainey dances out to the right side for the third first down of the drive inside the 20. FSU brings pressure and sacks Tim Tebow for a loss and also ends the first quarter. Florida still leads the game, 7-0.

2nd Quarter:
Caleb Sturgis splits the up rights for a 37 yard field goal. Gators lead 10-0. Florida’s run defense continues to struggle a bit, allowing Florida State to capitalize on a few runs. But it’s not enough.. The Gators force another punt and Tim Tebow and their offense take over. After a drive down field, Tebow opens thins up with a pass to Aaron Hernandez for a first down out to the 26 yard line. Tebow finds a way to scramble from one side all the way back to the other for 7 yards… Very next play Tebow finds a whole on the left side for 18 yards that resulted in a Gator touchdown, 17-0. Here is another game where the Gator defense plays a big role. The offense is going good but the defense is really the difference maker so far this game. They force another FSU punt and now take over for the fifth time. Tebow pushes for a little trip down the field, then goes deep to Cooper but dropped. Aaron Hernandez grabs the third shovel pass and takes it all the way top the house for another touchdown. Prior to the play, he throws the ball into the crowd and is flagged for a excessive celebration but I think was worth it with that run. Gators lead 24-0. After a short kick and great field position by FSU, the next play was a pass and was intercepted by corner back Joe Haden. Gators take over and knee the ball. HALFTIME. 24-0

3rd Quarter:
The Gators defense is just playing remarkable. Another punt was forced after Florida swallowed the FSU QB for a sack. Tim Tebow escapes from two defensive lineman and still finds a way to complete the pass. Two plays later on 3rd and 4, Tebow throws a bullet down field to David Nelson for a first down. Just moments later, Tebow launches a deep ball to Riley Cooper that is caught in the endzone for 39 yards. Extra point is blocked, after play FSU is flagged for a late hit. The Seminoles finally get a decent gain on a pass but was called back for a block in the back. I am feeling sorry for the young FSU quarterback right now after taking so many licks by this Gator defense. The Seminoles faced a 4th and 4 and chose to go for it. Florida jumped offsides and gave up 4th and inches. Next play they run a gimmick play and the snap was bobbled, chains came out and resulted in first down. Florida forces a fumble but recovered by Florida State. A 41 yard field goal attempt by FSU was not even close. Florida takes over with 5:56 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Tim Tebow takes off and rushes for 47 yards but the ball was poked out by an FSU defender, Seminoles take over. Florida State continues to make a run, all the way down to the 2 yard line. The Seminoles are finally on the board, kicking a 20 yard field goal. Gators up big 30-3. End of the 3rd quarter.

4th Quarter:

Brandon James returns the kickoff out to the 22 yard line. Wow.. Very next play Jeff Demps explodes for a 62 yard run, his longest of the season. Florida is now facing a 3rd and 5 in the red zone. Tebow attempts a jump pass to Hernandez but he gets tangled up. Next play Tebow runs it in for a touchdown, 37-3. FSU capitalizes on a 9 yard touchdown reception. Gators take over and Tim Tebow appears for his final time. All Florida backups are seeing the field, including backup QB John Brantley. RB Mike Gillislee is really running the ball well, really catching Meyer’s eye. Brantley’s pass was completed to Holliday but the hit caused him to fumble and was recovered by FSU. The Seminoles marched down the field in the red zone with 0:21 left. Very next play, FSU pass was intercepted by redshirt freshman Adrian Bushell. The reaction of Tebow after the interception was priceless. Florida takes a knee. END OF GAME! 37-10.

Tim Tebow played amazing and should have gave the Heisman voters something else to think about when they witnessed his 5 touchdowns. The 90,000+ fans who witnessed Tim Tebow’s last game will have something they will never forget. I have never seen this many camera flashes in this stadium ever. It reminds me of the fourth of July..

Before the game, after the Gator walk Tebow talked about how emotional it was when he saw his parents and friends. He said it was hard to stay cool and how much he was thankful and blessed for being able to play all four years at the University Of Florida. What else what I thought was emotional was when coach Urban Meyer said he will never see Tebow’s lights again.

And Tebow’s FINAL lap around The Swamp brought several tears to my eyes.

We thank Tim Tebow for the four years he put in here at the University of Florida.

Junior OL Corey Hobbs Leaving After This Season

Posted by admin on November 27th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gator redshirt junior OL Cory Hobbs will not return and play for the Gators in the 2010 season which was confirmed by Hobbs father through a text message.

Here is the exact text message that was sent.

“He has decided to study next semester…for law school!” Randy said.

Hobbs was a member of the 2006 recruiting class, playing the offensive line the past three seasons for Florida. During last years championship, Hobbs was the second string center, backing up Maurkice Pouncey. He has suffered from a neck injury the past couple years which has been a reason why he hasn’t seen any playing time.

Hobbs who is from Oviedo High in Orlando, will be honored with the seniors on senior day Saturday against FSU.

Gator Sports Nation wished Cory the best of luck and is glad he found what he likes doing other than just football.

A.J. Jones Out For FSU & Alabama Game

Posted by admin on November 26th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer has announced today that linebacker A.J. Jones will miss the next couple of weeks with a right medial collateral ligament sprain. Jones will not be ready until the bowl game this upcoming January.

Jones has performed well this year, recording 29 tackles along with an interception. He injured his knee in the first half of the blowout win against FIU 62-3. Brandon Hicks will be filling in the spot for Jones.

Other player injury news:

Emmanuel Moody (ankle) is still questionable whether or not he will be ready to play in Saturday’s game against the Seminoles. Both Jermaine Cunningham who is suffering from a shoulder injury and Terron Sanders who has injured ribs are probable for the FSU game.

Keep an eye out here on GSN for more news on these injuries.

There are five Florida Gator players who are finalists for NCAA’s top awards. Quarterback Tim Tebow, LB Brandon Spikes, CB Joe Haden, TE Aaron Hernandez and punter Chas Henry have all been nominated for six combined awards.

Tim Tebow is a finalist for the Maxwell award which is known for the nations best all-around player, and hes not done yet. He also is up for the Davey O’Brien award for the nations best quarterback. Not to surprising is it?

Brandon Spikes is running along three other players for the Chuck Bednarik award. Other two players he joins are Terrence Cody of Alabama and Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska.

Hernandez also joins a couple others that includes Dorin Dickerson of Pittsburgh and Dennis Pitta of BYU who all are finalists for the John Mackey Award which is the nations top TE.

Chas Henry is up against Georgia’s Drew Butler and Zoltan Mesko of Michigan for the Ray Guy award.

Haden is competing against Tennessee’s Eric Berry and Earl Thomas of Texas for the Jim Thorpe award. Now that could be neck and neck between both Haden and Berry.

All of the finalists will be announced on December 10 at the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards at Atlantic Dance Hall at Disney’s BoardWalk at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista. Congrats to all six players and hopefully they come out on top when they are ready to be announced.

No Notre Dame For Meyer

Posted by admin on November 24th, 2009   2 Comments

Florida Gator head coach Urban Meyer has dealt with several rumors about him becoming the new Notre Dame head coach and today he has stated he wants this to end now.

GSN has gathered some info from the Gator report.

“I’m ready to dispel it (the rumor),” Meyer said. “I’m going to be the coach at Florida as long as they’ll have me. So I want to make that clear.”

Coach Meyer use to be the assistant coach back in 1996-2000 and said years ago that becoming the Notre Dame head coach was a dream job. But as you can see things have changed ever since then.

Senior quarterback Tim Tebow had a few words to put in. He said he doesn’t think Meyer will ever be the Notre Dame head coach. He thinks he will retire when he is ready and he doesn’t think he will land up there. And I am behind that 150%. I believe coach Meyer is going to be the head coach in Gainesville for a good amount of time. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon I’ll tell you that.
