Tennessee, You Deserve This

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010   7 Comments

14 months. All this carnage in 14 months. Hurricane Lane blew through Knoxville and left the Tennessee football program in ruins. How did it happen? Good question. You would think that a school like Tennessee with tradition and prestige would hire a football coach to lead it’s program. Instead they hired a rock star wannabe. Why?

When Phil Fulmer was kicked to the curb at UT, his record was somewhere around the 150-50 mark. But winning 3 out of every 4 games for two decades was not enough for the Vols. They weren’t winning the right games anymore. They weren’t beating the Gators, and they weren’t beating the Tide.

Apparently, somebody had the idea to go out and hire the “anti-Fulmer”. Fulmer was a class act, he was a Vol. He played for the Vols and bleeds UT orange. He gave the impression that he did not want to make waves, never wanting to mix it up with Urban Meyer or Nick Saban. He shrugs off losses with his standard “we will work like heck”. But he can never be accused of embarrassing the school.

“So who do we get? How about the kid who the Raiders just fired? He’s young. He’s good looking. He’s in shape. He’s got the balls to get in Meyer’s face. He is a guy who can come in and light a fire. Never mind he has a 5-15 record. Never mind he has never heard of Knoxville. Who cares if he wants to scrap everything UT and replace it with USC? As long as it wins games right?”

Well now you know. You went out and hired the anti-Fulmer only to realize that Fulmer was more good than bad. Now look at you. You fans who have been swallowing his crap for 14 months, how do you like him now? Oh you loved it when he took pot shots at other coaches. You laughed it up. You thought it was great when he made jokes around the SEC. It was just jealousy right? Or maybe we were scared? Maybe we were worried because we didn’t have Fat Phil to kick around anymore? No actually, we were really laughing at you.

Now look at you. You’re making youtube videos peeing on t-shirts and cussing his name. You’re burning mattresses and spray painting F-Bombs on rocks. You were SOOO cocky. What are you now? You’re getting what you deserve, that’s what.

Arrest Warrant Issued For Dustin Doe

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010   No Comment

Dustin Doe’s apparent failure to perform eight hours of community service has led to an arrest warrant issued to him on January 5th.

Back in July, Doe was caught driving on a suspended license and was arrested. According to records, Doe paid the $311 fine associated to his case when he was adjudicated guilty before a judge. Doe reportedly paid the fine but then failed to perform the community service that came with this adjudication.

Doe was initially suspended from the team at the time of his July arrest and was later reinstated during two-a-days in August.

He is no longer with the team due to graduation.

Michael Taylor First Casualty of UT Recruiting Class- Commits to Florida–11:00 AM UPDATE

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010   4 Comments

11:00 UPDATE. Michael Taylor has released an official statement on the matter. Taylor: “I have had a change of heart and I have de-committed from Tennessee.”
“I am not ready to release a list of schools yet,” he said. “I am open right now.”

His coach spoke with Chad Simmons of scout earlier this morning and said “Mike is now comitted to Florida.”

So as of now it remains to be seen.
——–

The riot is over, the students are back in their dorms and Lane Kiffin is half way to Los Angeles, California. As the dust settles from the chaos that was Kiffin’s flight from Knoxville things seem to be falling apart with their current recruiting class. It was made known recently that Michael Taylor was the first casualty of the coach-less Tennessee recruiting class. Though Taylor did not explicitly make the news known himself, a teammate of his let slip that he was heading to the Sunshine State to play for the University of Florida.

University of Central Florida commit Tony Jacobs, a teammate of Michael Taylor at Atlanta Westlake High, informed the Orlando Sentinel that the standout linebacker would be decommitting from Tennessee and committing to Florida.

“Yeah he is going to the University of Florida” said Jacob.

When Taylor was finally contacted for comment he did not sound pleased that the news had been reported however he did not deny the the report either.

“They had the nerve to call me and ask me to come to Southern Cal. And Coach Ed Orgeron said that he was going to be my coach at Tennessee.” It is widely known that Orgeron is leaving with Kiffin to be at USC.

This is a good pick up for the Gators of which right now are looking to take one more linebacker after Michael Taylor. Standing at 6’1, 200 pounds, Taylor is a prized recruit that will be now joining the Florida fold.

It is expected that more UT recruit defections are on the way in light of the recent chaos in Knoxville.

Lane Kiffin Leaves For USC- Riots Ensue

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2010   3 Comments

The Lane Kiffin era came to a short end on Tuesday evening as Kiffin announced via a press conference that he would be leaving for the vacant USC head coaching job.

Shortly after hearing this, UT students took to the streets and quickly became an unruly, raucous crowd. It did not take long for the hatred and anger towards Lane Kiffin set in with the Vol faithful. Shirts bearing Kiffin’s face and mattresses were set ablaze as the crowd grew louder. A few twitter users near the chaos reported that a large police presence had arrived on scene to quell the toothless aggression.

I knew that SEC fans were a rabid bunch but I had no idea we were this bad. I think it is safe to say that the Tennessee bunch take the cake and get recognition as the most psycho family member of this dysfunctional SEC family. Pictures and videos below depicting the hilarious departure of Lane Kiffin.

Videos of students and fans rioting:

This next video is an interesting news report about coach Ed Orgeron working the phones immediately after this had been decided, letting know current UT commits that they had scholarship offers at USC.

And here is a link to a picture of the UT rock being repainted. Please note that this picture contains offensive language regarding Lane Kiffin and his wife.

Also, check out this hilarious reaction from a UT fan:

Last but not least, here is Urban Meyer’s reaction to the news from the Kentucky game earlier. ;)

I will update this as more footage and pictures pour in.

A Word With Solomon Patton

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2010   2 Comments

Solomon Patton is a Gator, plain and simple. The 5’10, 175 pound wideout from Hoover, Alabama loves the Gators more than anything, and he enrolled early at his favorite school earlier this week to get a jumpstart on his college education. Sort of weird huh? I was under the impression that Nick Saban owned the state of Alabama in recruiting; apparently not. He will be hitting the field this spring when the Gators put on the orange and blue for practice. I for one cant wait to see Patton play at UF.

During his entire career, Patton put up huge numbers for his high school, SS Murphy. During his senior season, Patton caught 71 passes for 891 yards and seven touchdowns. That’s over twelve yards a catch! But that’s not the only stat he was doing well in. He got 30 rushes for 371 yards and three touchdowns and also returned five kick returns this year for 194 yards and one touchdown. Patton was used everywhere on his team, and will probably do the same at UF next fall.

Patton is expected to play in the slot for UF this spring/fall. He will get his shot on the outside too, but I expect him to stay in the slot and have sort of a Percy Harvin role. He was one of the two wide receivers to enroll early at Florida this semester (Robert Clark), so now him and Clark can get a leg up on the other wideouts UF has committed to play for them in 2010 (Chris Dunkley and Quinton Dunbar).

Gator Sports Nation exchanged a few words with Patton tonight:

When I first spoke with Patton, I asked him if he was pumped about this year, he replied back: “Heck yea!”

We had the chance to ask him a couple of things.

Gator Sports Nation: What did you think of the Under Armour All-America game?

Patton: “I liked it a lot, um it was a good experience just being to leave mobile and go play with the best athletes in the nation, i mean that’s big and i thank god for blessing me to get this far in life.”

Gator Sports Nation: What are the advantages of enrolling early at UF?

Patton: “Me getting in early it gives me a chance to learn the plays and get in the weight room to put about 15 pounds on b4 the season and just go through spring.”

Official: Major Wright Declares for NFL Draft

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2010   No Comment

Florida junior safety Major Wright (Miramar, Fla .) announced his intention to declare for the 2010 NFL Draft and forego his final year of eligibility.

“I enjoyed my time in Gainesville, they were some of the best years of my life,” Wright said. “Beyond winning championships, I will take with me some great memories of personal friendships from my teammates and lessons learned from the coaching staff. I will always be a Gator and look forward to watching them play from the sidelines in the future.”

“Major will be missed in our secondary and by his teammates,” said head coach Urban Meyer. “He was a physical player who had a presence on the football field and was someone our players looked up to and gravitated to. They enjoyed being around him both on and off the field. We wish him the best of luck.”

In his three years at UF, Wright was part of two SEC Eastern Division-winning teams, including the 2008 National and SEC Champions. He finished his collegiate career with 165 tackles, 10 passes defended, eight interceptions, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 41 games played.

This past season, the 6-foot-0, 204-pound defender tied for second on the Gators with three interceptions and registered 32 tackles, 28 of which were solo. In his final appearance for the Orange and Blue, Wright notched four tackles and broke up a pass in UF’s 51-24 victory over Cincinnati in the 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl. He made a key pick in the fourth quarter at Mississippi State at the one-yard line and totaled a season-high eight tackles in the SEC Championship Game.

As a sophomore, Wright started all 14 contests, tied for second on the team with four interceptions and was third with 66 total tackles. He earned honorable mention All-Sophomore recognition from College Football News. In the BCS National Championship Game against Oklahoma, Wright collected nine tackles and also picked off a pass at the goal line from Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Sam Bradford that prevented the Sooners from scoring at the end of the first half. In the Homecoming win over Kentucky, he returned a blocked field goal 37 yards to set up a touchdown.

Wright started seven games in his freshman campaign, when he was named to the Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC team and as a Second-Team Freshman All-American by Rivals.com. In addition, he earned first-team All-American honors from CollegeFootballNews.com, was a Freshman All-American Honorable Mention from Sporting News and was selected to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. Wright ranked third on the team and first among freshmen in total tackles with 67, the fifth-highest total by any freshman in the SEC. He led the team and tied for first in the SEC in forced fumbles with four on the season, including one in back-to-back games versus Ole Miss and Auburn. No other SEC freshman was in the top 10 in that category and the four forced fumbles were the most by a Florida player since Guss Scott had five in 2003 and the most by any Florida freshman since the statistic began being kept in 1982.

Official: Maurkice Pouncey Declares For NFL Draft, Mike Pouncey Returns For Senior Season

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2010   No Comment

Gainesville, Fla. – Monday January 11, 2010

Florida junior offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.) will declare for the 2010 NFL Draft, while his twin brother Mike Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.), also a junior offensive lineman, plans to return for his senior season.

“This is one of the biggest decisions I have ever made in my life,” Maurkice Pouncey said. “I am glad that my brother and I made the decision to be Gators. God gave us the knowledge, strength and ability to be great players, but it is now time for my brother and me to part ways.”

“I’m very excited to come back and wear the Orange and Blue for the 2010 season,” said Mike Pouncey. “I’m looking forward to being a leader on this team, having the opportunity to play center and continuing to learn from Coach Steve Addazio. It has been an honor to play here, so I can’t wait to run out into The Swamp for another year.”

Maurkice Pouncey tallied 40 career starts over his three seasons and was the winner of the 2009 Rimington Trophy, presented to the best center in the nation. He is the first Gator to win the award. Maurkice also garnered recognition as a first-team All-American by Walter Camp, the FWAA, Sporting News and CBSSports.com. Both Maurkice and Mike received second-team All-America and first-team All-SEC recognition from the Associated Press.

“These are two guys who we’ve been able to build our program around for the last several years,” said head coach Urban Meyer. “They have both provided an unbelievable amount of leadership and energy to our team. These guys embody the toughness and physical style of play that we want Florida to be known for.

“We wish Maurkice the best of luck, and we’re looking forward to having Mike continue to be a leader on the team and anchor our offensive line.”

The Pounceys helped power the Florida offense which ranked No. 1 in the SEC in 2009 with 457.9 yards per game, including 221.8 rushing yards per game, 10th-highest in the nation.

“Maurkice has all the tools to succeed in the NFL,” said Addazio. “There is no doubt in my mind that he will be a great player at the next level. I wish him nothing but the best because has been like a son to me.

“I also know that Mike has a great future ahead of him,” Addazio continued. “I believe he will be the top returning offensive lineman in America. Coming back just gives him another opportunity to grow as a player and as a leader and will help him increase his positional versatility. Without question, Mike’s future is very bright.”

“I would like to thank my family for standing behind me in the decision that I have made and my coaches for believing in me as a true freshman and helping me achieve everything that I have as a Gator,” Maurkice said. “I would like to thank all the fans for cheering us on and getting us hyped up for the games. I am going to miss the Gator walks and the Gator Nation.”

The Pouncey twins started every game in the 2009 season for Florida, each earning SEC Lineman of the Week honors once this season. Both were also starters in the BCS National Championship Game following the 2008 season, in which Florida claimed the national title with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma.
