Senior Bowl Will be a Big Week For Tebow

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010   No Comment

After 4 years of debating what Tim Tebow can do or not do it’s finally time for some of those questions to be answered. Scott Wright of draftcountdown.com has attended a lot of Senior Bowls and scouted many top prospects but he’s never been this excited about one player. “I can’t wait,” Wright said

Next week Tim will participate in a week long practices that will be attended be about 800 NFL general managers, coaches and scouts. All eyes will be on Tebow, Wright said.

At Florida Tebow took almost every snap in shotgun, hardly ever throwing the deep ball, and running when plays first broke down. We all know it worked great at the collegiate level and that’s why Tebow will go down as one of the best to ever play college football. But will it translate into the NFL.

“We’ve literally been waiting years,” Wright said. “We’re going to get some answers to the questions. For such a controversial prospect, a guy with so much hype and attention, to get to see him for an entire week in that type of environment, it’s just going to be phenomenal.

There are many legitimate questions about whether Tim can cut it as an NFL quarterback. Can Tebow line up under center? Can he run play-action? Can he stay in the pocket after the first read isn’t there? Can he scan a defense from under center? These questions are what GM”s and scouts want answered during the week of practices.

“It’s going to be interesting, I promise you,” Wright said. “All eyes are going to be on Tebow the entire week.”

Gsn will be attending all senior bowl practices and will provide updates on Tebow’s performance throughout the week.

Pierre-Louis Turns Himself In

Posted by admin on January 19th, 2010   No Comment

Former Florida Gator cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis has finally turned himself in at the Alachua County jail early Tuesday morning and should be making a court appearance at 9 a.m., the Gainesville Sun reported.

Pierre-Louis was booked at 2:16 a.m. from a warrant that was charging him with kidnapping, domestic battery by strangulation, unarmed burglary, battery, and obstructing justice by tampering.

It all happened at his girlfriends apartment on Sunday at around 5:30 in the morning. Rumors went around online that said someone had a friend who was real close to Pierre-Louis and talked to him and said he didn’t do anything and that she was his ex-girlfriend and always tried doing something like this.

Gainesville police capt. Ed Book said that there was another person in the apartment with his girlfriend but they escaped. From reading the past couple of days, Pierre-Louis was accused of trapping his girlfriend in the bathroom and then choking her. He then slung her on the bed when she tried to escape the apartment and started to strangle her.

“He makes some threats and she tries to call 911, but he grabbed the phone,” Book said. “She was able to get away from him long enough to escape, run outside and call for help.”

Pierre-Louis had just finished his final year as a Gator this past season and was apart of the Sugar Bowl win against Cincinnati.

Mike Pouncey Returns For Senior Year To Boost Draft Status

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010   No Comment

The Pouncey twins are to be separated once the 2010 football season rolls around. Maurkice Pouncey, the former Gator center, plans to depart Gainesville for Orlando to train for the NFL. His twin, Mike Pouncey, is looking forward to another successful season as a Gator.

Even though the twins had only been separated for a week a few years back, they both decided that they would go their separate ways. Maurkice Pouncey made the decision to leave the University of Florida early despite his senior season ahead of him. He thought that the time was right and that the NFL was calling him. On the other hand, Mike Pouncey believes that returning for his senior season as a Gator would be the best decision for himself and his family. Mike Pouncey told the St. Petersburg Times, “I made the decision, and I believe it’s the right one.”

Mike Pouncey will be filling his brother’s shoes as center despite playing as the guard last year. “I’m comfortable anywhere on the offensive line, but I’m going to move to center, and that will help me out a lot.” Many coaches, including intern head coach and offensive coordinator Steve Addazio, told Pouncey that moving to center will improve his draft stock, intern make him a potential first-round pick in the NFL. Even though Pouncey thinks he is a great player, the coaching staff feels like there are some things that need to be improved. Addazio told the St. Petersburg Times, “I believe he will be the top returning offensive lineman in America.”

Even though the Pouncey twins would enjoy entering the NFL draft together, many things impacted Mike Pouncey’s choice to stay a Gator. His family wanted Mike to leave early in hopes of a first or second-round draft pick, but Mike made the choice solely.

All in all, the twins will be separated despite playing together for years in high school and throughout college. Mike Pouncey said, “They gave me the honor of a scholarship and this is my way of paying them back.” The Gator Nation and all of college football can look forward to seeing Mike Pouncey as the Gator center come fall.

Tebow To Be Featured On The NCAA 11 Cover

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010   No Comment

It has been reported by Liz Mullen of the Jacksonville Business Journal that former Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow may be close to a deal that will have him featured on the front cover of EA Sports’ NCAA Football 11 video game that will come out this summer.

If Tebow is placed on the front cover, he will be just the second Gator to do so, followed by Heisman Trophy winning QB Danny Wuerffel who was on the cover of NCAA Football 98.

Sandy Sandoval, the senior director of athlete relations for EA Sports told Mullen, “I cannot confirm or deny that.”

Even though Tebow might not be a top draft pick coming in April, there is still no name that could come close to matching him in terms of marketing and recognition. Also, if EA Sports goes down the multi-cover route, some others that would be in the mix would include Ndamakong Suh, Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, C.J. Spiller, and Eric Berry.

Michael Taylor Has Found A Home

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010   No Comment

The 6’1, 205 pound linebacker out of Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia, previously committed to Tennessee, had felt that Gainesville was a far better fit for himself and his family. Even though Taylor had committed to Tennessee, he felt that he had not been receiving the same treatment as other recruits. He told Edward Aschoff of GatorSports.com that, “I loved everything about Florida. They offered me and I had to think about it, but I found a home.”

The four-star recruit received the offer a week ago with his mother on hand at a surprise visit. Once Taylor was offered the scholarship, his mother broke down in tears of happiness. Taylor immediately accepted the offer when his mother began to cry. He had never seen her cry as she did that day. Taylor closed the deal with a ‘Gator chomp’.

Taylor said that the surprise visit in early January helped influence his decommitment. Taylor had chosen to leave Tennessee even before Kiffin decided to depart for the University of Southern California. The linebacker had said, “Tennessee would always show other recruits more love and maybe that was because I kind of handed myself to Tennessee. Now, they’re really trying to come after me and come get me, but I’ve found a home. I just found a place that was better than Tennessee.”

Michael Taylor had always had his eye on the Gators, but he feared that Florida had too many players and not enough positions to fill. Once Taylor had read over the depth chart during his visit, he discovered that the University of Florida was the right place for him. Taylor had said, “I always felt like they were loaded and that they were a team that wasn’t in dire need for linebackers right away.”

Until the Under Armour All-America Game in early January, Taylor was overlooked. Taylor received the honor of co-MVP at the game. Many of the teams that had interest in Taylor earlier in the season, but had given up on him, were then back in the picture. Once the Gator recruiters got a hold of Taylor, he knew which collegiate town he could call home.

The four-star recruit with over 140 tackles and 7.5 sacks, along with 11 forced fumbles looks to have a great college career with the Gators. The linebacker has to fill some fairly large shoes as many Gator linebackers are departing for the NFL. Taylor looks to continue his successes with the Gator football program as he did in high school. He will be one recruit to watch in the upcoming seasons.

Update: Arrest Warrant For Wondy Pierre-Louis

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2010   No Comment

Gator Sports Nation recently covered the situation about Pierre-Louis allegedly choking his girlfriend in her apartment early Sunday, and now the Gainesville police department are after him with an arrest warrant for domestic violence charges.

Pierre-Louis is accused of kicking down his girlfriends apartment door and then trapping her into the bathroom while attempting to choke her, according to what the police report said. He also told his girlfriend “I could kill you.” After his girlfriend tried to run away, Pierre-Louis shoved her on the bed and started to strangle her. But she did find a way to escape and got her neighbor to contact 911.

Pierre-Louis is facing the following felony counts:

  • Domestic battery by strangulation.
  • Burglary.
  • Battery.
  • False imprisonment and hindering communication to law enforcement.

“We’re looking for him,” GPD Lt. David Rowe said. “He also has the right to turn himself in.”

This happened just a few days after Pierre-Louis’s family was devastated by the Haiti earthquake, losing their homes but not themselves.

“My attorney doesn’t want me to talk,” Pierre-Louis told the Southwest Florida News-Press. “It’s all a lie. We’ll go through a process to prove it’s a lie.”

Pierre-Louis finished his last season as a Florida Gator cornerback this past season. This news about him is shocking and I would never of guessed something like this would of happened with Wondy.

Wondy Pierre-Louis Accused Of Choking Girlfriend

Posted by admin on January 17th, 2010   No Comment

Former Florida Gator cornerback Wondy Pierre-Louis is wanted by the Gainesville police on five felony charges after allegedly choking his girlfriend.

Pierre-Louis is accused of kicking down his girlfriends apartment door early Sunday to find her in the bed with another man, the police reported in a sworn complaint that was filed on Sunday evening.

Police said that Wondy trapped his girlfriend in her bathroom and started to choke her while saying, “I could kill you.” When she attempted to run away from him and call the police, he pushed her onto her bed, took of his shirt and started to strangle her, WCJB reported.

Pierre-Louis’s girlfriend did find a way to escape and had a neighbor dial 911.

“This is a case that could have been easily much worse for our victim,” Lt. Keith Kameg said. “She was able to do everything right, get away, protect herself and I’m happy to report she sustained no serious injuries.”

If you have any information on where he is, you are asked to call the Gainesville police. I know the last time I saw him was online on Facebook yesterday.

Dunbar Set On His Decision

Posted by admin on January 17th, 2010   1 Comment

The status of coach Urban Meyer whether he will return before the next season doesn’t seem to have any effect on the decision of four-star wide receiver Quinton Dunbar (Miami, FL), who said that he is confident that Meyer will make a return soon.

Dunbar, in Gainesville this weekend for an official visit said there was really nothing different about coach Meyer.

“To me, it looks like the same old Meyer,” Dunbar said. “I don’t think he’ll leave the game of football. I know he’ll be back for next season.”

Four-star running back Mack Brown is also on an official visit this weekend. Brown said that he has heard that Meyer was planning to return as early as March. Dunbar didn’t heat Brown say it, but said there are several rumors going around about his return.

“I heard he was going to be back in the summer,” Dunbar said. “I was hearing different things but I’m not concerned about that because I know he’ll be back. It doesn’t mess up my recruitment. I’m 100 percent Gator.”

Dunbar is rated the No. 22 wide receiver and No. 150 overall prospect by rivals, said he will not be taking any other official visits. He feels good about the whole Meyer situation and also has a pretty strong relationship with the new wide receiver coach Zach Azzanni.

Many schools chased after Dunbar as soon as Urban Meyer announced that he would be resigning and then shortly after changing his mind on just to take a leave of absence, but Dunbar said he is all set for Florida. Another big reason why his commitment to Florida is so solid is because of Azzanni.

“I met him plenty of times,” Dunbar said. “He came to my house. I’ve seen him a lot. I like coach Azzanni a lot. He doesn’t just talk about football, he talks about life.

It seems like Dunbar had a great visit to Gainesville this weekend. Not only having fun hanging out with the coaches and stuff, but he also played a little bit of the Nintendo Wii at Meyers house.
