T Minus 1 Day: Its Finally Over!

Its finally over! In less that 24 hours, Urban Meyer will lead the 2010 Florida Gators into battle.

2010 will be a season of change. Not good or bad, but just change in general. There has been more turnover with the coaches and players in this offseason than any in recent memory.

For the final day of the offseason, I’m going to layout some key losses, key additions and the outlook on both.

Here are the major points of interest comming into 2010:

Tim Tebow – We all knew the day would come when we would lose the legend. Tebow left for the NFL and in doing so, left the door wide open for John Brantley
Brandon Spikes – The Tebow of the defense, Spikes was the unquestioned leader of the defensive unit, which was elite under his leadership and intensity. While Brantley should fill Tebow’s shoes quite nicely, the same can’t be said for whoever steps up on defense. We will have to wait and see.
Charlie Strong – The architect of the Gator’s dominance on defense during his tenure as defensive coordinator, Strong took a well deserved head coaching job in Louisville. Strong will be missed and though his replacement, Teryl Austin is an accomplished secondary coach in college and NFL, we have yet to see how he handles the front seven. With a ton of turnover on defense and a new coordinator, there will be a lot of pressure put on the offense to produce.
Recruiting Class: The 2010 recruiting class was one for the ages. 2010 got off to a rough start when coach Urban Meyer stepped sown due to a still mysterious health condition, only to reverse his decision (is there a theme here? cough Billy D cough). However, Meyer worked his magic and brought in a recruiting class for the ages. With all the turnover due to players leaving for the NFL or graduating, there may have been a perfect storm in bringing in elite talent and allowing that talent to take the field sooner rather than later.

When the longest 24 hours of the year are over, Urban Meyer and his Florida Gators will take the field with a new look and many questions which need to be answered. All we can do is watch.
