Well folks, all the former Gators from the 2010 NFL Draft have agreed to contracts with their respective teams.
Joe Haden, the number 7 overall pick of the draft by the Cleveland Browns signed a five year deal with his new team. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the deal is worth $50 million over the course of the contract with the all-important guaranteed money coming in at a staggering $26 million.
Haden will be one of the highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL this season. With his new hefty wallet, come lofty expectations. At Florida, Haden exceeded expectations, then some. Joe was actually recruited to play quarterback. However, being in the same class as the soon-to-be legendary Tim Tebow, Haden took his athletic ability and his quarterback-level play recognition to the cornerback position where he would start for all four seasons for the Gators. Three of which would be as a dominant player.
For the Browns, Haden hopes to become the NFL equivalent of the player he was for the Gators. He will go into camp with an opportunity to compete for a starting spot in the Browns patchy defense. Filling a patch will be his main goal as a rookie, while becoming a dominant force in the NFL being the ultimate goal for Joe.
After the results he produced at Florida with only four years at his position and room to grow, I wouldn’t bet against him.
