Freshmen Kenny Boyton led the Gators with 18 points, as the Gators picked up their first Southeastern Conference victory with a 72-58 win over the visiting Tigers of LSU.

Boyton along with every member of the starting five posted double figures in points. Vernon Maclin and Ervin Walker contributed 14 points while Alex Tyus and Chandler Parsons each chipped in with 11 points.

Tonight’s game lacked the big dunks and was the prettiest win, but a win is a win after starting off conference play at 0-2. “We’re going to take it however it comes,” said Erving Walker, “Nobody said winning was going to be pretty. Losing is even uglier. We’re just happy to get this win.”

A big reason for the success Saturday was the accuracy from the 3 point line. Florida shot 41.2 percent as a team while only allowing the Tigers 16.7 percent from behind the arc.

Florida travels to Arkansas on Thursday night.
