No. 17 Gators Top Duquesne, 10-5

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2009   No Comment

Florida Gator sophomore Josh Adams stroked the ball well, finishing up 4-for-5 in the 10-5 win against Duquesne (0-9) on Friday.

Matt Den Dekker tacked on a three run home run while freshman Preston Tucker added a pair of doubles out of the 12 total hits the Gators ended up with on the night. Den Dekkers hitting in the beginning of the game opened the doors for Florida (7-4), jumping out to an early lead, 3-0.

Late in the seventh inning, Jonathan Piggot’s single scored Tucker and gave the Gators a 10-5 lead which pretty much just wrapped things up for the night. The Gators will continue the series with Duquesne tomorrow starting at noon.

Gators Take Down Stetson, 5-2

Posted by admin on March 5th, 2009   No Comment

His first start of the 2009 season, Gators junior pitcher Jeff Barfield threw 6 innings as No. 17 Florida took down Stetson 5-2. Barfield finished the night allowing five hits and striking out four.

Freshman Preston Tucker hit one out of Melching stadium. Billy Bullock took control at the end and finished with the save. Thanks to the Tucker home run, it really got things started for the Gators in the fourth inning, which put them ahead 1-0.

Two Stetson errors in the fifth inning gave the Gators some breathing room as they scored a pair and went up 5-0. The win built some more confidence in this ball club. Florida also snapped their two game losing streak and should bounce back with positive signs.

Florida will host Florida Atlantic tomorrow at McKethan Stadium starting at 6:35pm.

Gator Chomp Anthem Interview With Cadillac Slim

Can’t you just feel the excitement in the air from the Gators winning the 2008 championship? Well let me tell you that it might be a little bit more than usual excitement that you may hear in the near future. Of course we all know the Florida Gators defeated Oklahoma in the 2008 National Championship, but nobody knows one of the biggest fans who goes by the name “Cadillac Slim”.

Cadillac Slim is also referred as Antonio. The 25 year old was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and has lived in other places such as Jacksonville, Atlanta, Alabama, and California. He first started rapping in 1992 when he turned nine years old. He told me he used to be a young battle rapper until he turned seventeen and started participating in rap battles in the hood to the school yards. He decided to change his style of rapping after. He started out having a rough life, living in the projects in Gainesville but that did not stop him from the love and passion for his music. Since he was 16 years old, he has dropped 14 mix-tapes and now at the age 25 he has decided to take it up a level.

He told me that his goal is to bring the kind of music that everybody loves. Ever since the year 1995, Antonio has always been wanting to create a song about the Florida Gators, but he could not find the right beat to do so. “I wanted to make a song that would play on with gator fans forever, and Ihope it will, so I made a song for the swamp that would get gator fans amped up and the football team as well.” The remix of the Gator Anthem should be out during the start of the 2009 football season. Antonio has not just showed his love for his music, but the love, passion, and support for the Florida Gators. When I listen to the song, it get’s me hyped up and ready for the season and makes me want to go watch the highlights of 2008. Let’s hope that Antonio’s Gator Anthem catches on faster than Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps running into the goal line.

You may hear the Gator Anthem song on his music myspace account or you may email or contact him for the file to put on your ipod or any music devices you have, and maybe in return you can help promote his song to the Gator fans around the Nation. The following link will take you to his music myspace where the song is listed.

Vote For The Swamp

I came across a neat challenge online. It is a tournament bracket for the best college football stadiums. Teams go head to head in the bracket challenge to see who has the best stadium in the country, and it allows you to vote to help find the winner.

So I came across the Florida challenge and I see they are up against Penn State. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is currently losing right now, so how about we all step it up so that the Gators will come back out on top. We want to win everything we can. Doesn’t matter what it is.

Florida is currently down by about 4%. There are over 3,500 votes as of now. What really gets me is how they used a empty picture of the Swamp but of the Penn State stadium it looks like its college game day there or something. Let’s not let them win!

Simple click the link below that says Vote for the Swamp, when it is loaded, all you do is enter your zip code and then click the vote button right below the picture of the Swamp. Tell as many friends as possible.

Al Horford Breaks Out For Hawks

Posted by admin on March 1st, 2009   No Comment

By: Brandon

Former Florida Gator star forward Al Horford continues to explode in the NBA. Even with very little experience in the league, it still does not stop Horford from being defined as a “beast”.

Friday night Horford and the Atlanta Hawks took on former Gator Udonis Haslem and the Miami Heat in a 4 quarter battle. Horford played 43 minutes and showed no sign of weakness what so ever. He blew up. Like literally to control. Al scored 21 points and collected 22 rebounds in the 91-83 win. Horford also had a block shot on the night.

Al Horford was a monster coming out of the University Of Florida. He was the type of player who you could predict that he would do some damage going into the NBA. Some people might of thought leaving early his junior year was not the right decision and how he should of waited one last year and graduate then move on, but he has proved to everyone he can do it. Horford had a successful career at the University Of Florida, winning back to back National championships as a Gator under coach Billy Donovan. Just imagine how much damage Florida could have done if he would of stayed for his final year, along with Noah, Brewer, and Taurean Green. Shoot, I bet it would have been three championships in a row.

Horford averaged 13 points and almost 10 boards a game his junior year at Florida. As of right now with the Atlanta Hawks, he is averaging 10 points and roughly 9 rebounds per contest. He also played real well in the loss against the Nuggets, putting up 21 points. If you had to compare Al Horford to a former or current NBA player, who would you compare him to? My choice would be Alonzo Mourning. They both play the game alike and have the same athletic abilities. Not to mention they both can bang with anyone underneath the rim, have excellent shot blocking abilities, and they know how to find ways to score.

I am very excited to see what the rest of his NBA career has in store for him. He is already one of the best in the league and should continue to be on of the best. Al Horford will look forward to the next game as they take on Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday March 1st at 8pm.
