The beast of the east is back

Posted by admin on November 9th, 2008   No Comment

The Florida Gators are SEC East champs once again. No. 5 Florida took care of business tonight after topping off Vanderbilt 42 to 14. What has gotten into Florida this year? Is it something they all are eating? Every win this season so far has been a blowout. The rankings are starting to look better especially with No. 3 Penn State falling to Iowa which will move Florida up a notch. The SEC championship in Atlanta against the Crimson Tide is in Florida’s eyes but we must stay focused on Spurrier’s Gamecocks for next Saturday.

Do you think South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida State are ready to compete against our defense? Our athleticism is just amazing. Ahmad Black collects another interception on defense tonight while teammate Carlos Dunlap blocks a Vanderbilt punt. Florida tipped one punt and blocked one. Our special teams is rapidly improving every single ball game. And do you know what is really scary and why we all should feel sorry for the rest of the SEC teams? Well, let’s just make this clear. Florida does not have one senior on defense.

The Gators first exhibition game yesterday against Warner University showed a good sign on this years squad. Florida mixed up the lineup with some young freshman players which shot excellent from all around the arc. At the end of the 2nd half, the Gators finished the Royals off on a 108 to 49 win to open the season up in the O’Connell Center. Junior Dan Werner added 17 points along with Sophomore Alex Tyus collecting a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. One of Florida’s most shocking performances came from the true young Freshman Erving Walker scoring 13 points while gathering 6 assists.

Florida’s starters were Dan Werner, Chandler Parsons, Jai Lucas, Nick Calathes, and Alex Tyus. Coach Donovan and Senior Walter Hodge sat down and chatted about him becoming the sixth man. Hodge started every game last season for the Gators. “Coach asked me the other day and I told him I’ll do whatever it takes, wherever he needs me. ” It’s not who starts the game, it is who finishes it.” (Words were gathered by Walter Hodge and Ocala star banner.) Florida will host Rollins College this Thursday at the O’Connell Center. Tip off is at 7:00 pm.

Florida punishes Georgia 49-10, no dancing involved

The score was 49-10 with less than one-minute left on the clock, and the Gators clearly had the victory against Georgia in the bag.

But Urban Meyer remembered a certain incident that occurred October 27th of last year. No, Urban didn’t send his players to dance or mock the Bulldog bench; he simply called a timeout.

Meyer obeyed the rules of the game while showing class, but he showed no mercy. Meyer used his final two timeouts, in the last minute of the contest, to continue the game and cause agony for whoever was associated with the colors red and black.
