Gators fall to Ole Miss 31-30

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2008   No Comment

In Gainesville, The Gators came in expecting an easy W in the win column. But if you were watching the game…Florida failed the test. Ole Miss scored early in the first putting them up 7-0 while Florida answered back with a field goal. Late in the game, Florida scored a touchdown with 3:28 to go and could have tied it up 31-31 but failed to due to a blocked extra point from the Rebels. There was some decisions in the game that Urban Meyer could have prevented. One, I know 4th and 3 is not that far to go for the first, but why go for it? Not try for the field goal? Let’s try not to be negative but you have to give your opponent some respect which look what happened in the run. Florida turned the ball over on 3 fumbles and it just absolutely hurt them. It seemed like Rebels quarterback never touched the ball. Snead lined up as a receiver while Ole Miss running back Eason and receiver Derek McCluster would be sent in motion to run the ball up the middle or around the end. That is about all what the Rebels did and Florida just never came prepared to stop it throughout the game. A HUGE play for Ole Miss was the 86 yard touchdown pass to shay Hodge on 3rd down. That really opened a gap in the 4th quarter.

A huge problem on the Gators side is the offensive lines blocking. Tebow did pass for 319 yards but could not be protected very much. Some few dropped passes from Riley Cooper and Aaron Hernandez could have turned into some big plays for Florida but could not of been made. Emmanuel Moody sprained his ankle and was taken out late in the game and the Gators could have used him on the 4th and shorts. Florida will drop from the NO. 4 spot and put them 1-1 in the SEC and 3-1 overall, but it is still early. Meyer kept mentioning some other things they could have prevented. Example he gave was fake punt that Ole Miss attempted and became successful from. Their are thousands of unhappy Gator fans after the loss today, but it’s only the 4th game. Coach Meyer said all he can do is watch some film and figure out what happened and what he can do to prevent this from happening again. Meyer and the Gators will have practice tomorrow and regroup for next Saturday. Florida will travel to Arkansas on October 10th at 12:30pm. Stats from todays game can be seen below.

PASSING: Gators- Tebow- 24/38 319 yards 1 TD
Ole Miss- Snead- 9/20 185 yards 2 TD 1 INT.

RUSHING: Gators- Harvin 10 car 82 yards, Moody 3 car 16 yards, Rainey 3 car 9 yards, James 1 car 9 yards, Tebow 15 car 7 yards, Moore 1 car 2 yards.

Gators vs Ole Miss preview

The Florida Gators are set to face off with the Ole Miss Rebels tomorrow at 12:30 pm. The Gators are looking to improve their record to 4-0 and move to 2-0 in the SEC. Florida lifted an exciting 30-6 win over the Vols last Saturday. The Gators are predicted to win and should result in a win but you can not be absolutely sure just yet. The 2-2 Rebels do show some sign of strength, but just do not have enough to bang with the Gators. They do have a decent Sophomore quarterback Jevan Snead, but he does not have as much experience as Heisman winner Tim Tebow. Snead had a total of 4 interceptions against the lost against Vanderbilt and showed some kinds of weaknesses.

The Gators need to lock down Cordera Eason on the ground and limit the amount of carries and yards. Eason rushed for 88 yards against the Commodores. One other key player for the Rebels is the Junior receiver out of Largo, Florida Dexter McCluster. McCluster added 7 receptions for 132 yards which was the only player the Rebels could complete passes to against Vanderbilt. Other than McCluster and Eason, the Gators should come out with a W in the win column. If Spikes and the Gators defense put tons of pressure on Snead, he will choke and you will see a couple interceptions or fumble recoveries on the Gators stats sheet.

As long as Tebow starts the game running and passing the ball well, then we might see some Cameron Newton in the game and a lot of Chris Rainey tomorrow. I believe this will be one of the games where Tebow may come out of the middle of the third quarter or possibly early 4th. But it is still to early to under estimate the Rebels. Look what happened to the rank NO. 1 USC Trojans against Oregon State. Prediction for the Game tomorrow at the Swamp.

Gators- 45
Rebels- 10

Gators blow past the vols 30-6

Posted by admin on September 22nd, 2008   No Comment

The Florida Gators came into Knoxville Tennessee in front of 106,138 fans that attended todays game. The game was put away very early and I believe Brandon Spikes was right again. Spikes who told media that the Vols just quit playing ball which caused the game game against the Gators last year and I guess he could be right once again. The Gators came out prepared and was not going to let the crowd full of Boo’s get to them while running out of that tunnel. Florida is a too well experienced team to let things like that get in their head so they came out and did their job. The Gators took an early 17-0 lead in the first quarter. A couple key turnovers for the Vols gave the ball in Florida’s hands and you know what they did with it… score. Moody finally got some time in today and didn’t to quit bad while carrying the ball 9 times for 55 yards. What really hyped up the Gators was the punt return that was ran by Brandon James for a touchdown. James is one of the most explosive punt returner in the Nation and sure did show it. Tebow only throwing the ball 15 times and completing 8 passes for 96 yards still was enough to battle through the 30 to 6 win. You can see that Percy Harvin is looking good and back to 100% by the speed he puit on today. Harvin said he hasn’t felt this good since he was playing back in the 10th grade. Harvin caught for 49 yards on 2 receptions with one touchdown. Louis Murphy and Aaron Hernandez both added a pair of catches each while Moore and Cooper added one as well. Phillips attempted and made all 3 field goals with a long of 40 yards. Florida really had faith for Phillips coming through and tacking on some key field goal attempts.

The Gators defense looked very sharp. Linebacker Brandon Spikes had 5 tackles in the first quarter and was just everywhere on the field. Janoris Jenkins had an interception going into halftime which took away Tennessees touchdown at about the 2 yard line. Tennessee had some golden opportunities to score but failed to do so. Tennessee fumbled at the 1 which should have ended up with a score and forcing an interception with little over 10 seconds in the 2nd quarter and one other fumble just crushed the Vols. Florida now improves to 3-0 and (1-0 in the SEC). The Gators look to face Ole Miss next Saturday at 12:00 pm in thw Swamp. Todays win really shifted more momentum on Florida’s side and hope to move on with a win against the Rebels. Look for Cameron Newton and several of the Gators running backs to be spoted on the field on next Saturdays game. Here are some stats on todays win over the Tennessee Vols.

* Gators Passing- Tebow- 8/15 96 Yards. 2 TD

* Tennessee Passing- Crompton- 18/28 162 Yards. 1 INT.

* Gators Rushing- Moody 9 car 55 yards, Rainey 9 car 37 yards, Harvin 6 car 31 yards, Tebow 12 car 26 yards.

* Tennessee Rushing- Foster 14 car 37 yards, Crompton 7 car 22 yards, Jones 4 car 18 yards, Hardesty 5 car 15 yards, Creer 1 car 4 yards.

* Gators Receiving- Harvin 2 rec 49 yards 1 TD, Murphy 2 rec 18 yards, Hernandez 2 rec 18 yards 1 TD, Moore 1 rec 9 yards, Cooper 1 rec 5 yards.

* Tennessee Receiving- Jones 5 rec 40 yards, Stocker 3 rec 25 yards, Taylor 2 rec 24 yards, Briscoe 1 rec 22 yards, Foster 2 rec 19 yards, D. Moore 1 rec 13 yards, Warren 2 rec 12 yards, Hardesty 2 rec 7 yards.

Florida kick returns- James 1-52 yards, Casey 1-4 yards.

Florida Punt Returns- James 2-92 yards & 78 yard touchdown.

Gators vs Tennessee preview

SEC competition for the Florida Gators has finally arrived. The University of Florida Gators are less then 1 week away from their first SEC game of 2008 in Knoxville , Tennessee . Kickoff in Neyland Stadium against the Vols is at 3:30 PM EST. The entire Southeast will be watching this one.

Remember last year what happened when UT traveled to Gainesville ? The Gators destroyed them 59-20. The game was close in the first half, but after Meyer made some adjustments the Gators exploded for a huge Vol beat down. Tennessee is still a tough team to beat and this is one of the Gators biggest rivals, so I’m not predicting a blowout this time around. I’m predicting a final score around 42-20, in the Gators favor of course.
One of the biggest X factors heading into the game is Percy Harvin. For the first time in months he is 100% healthy and ready to play. Coach Urban Meyer said this week he won’t hold Percy back. He’ll be utilized in all facets of the offense. Don’t be surprised if Percy ends up with 12-13 touches and almost 200 yards of total offense. He has the play making ability to make anything happen.

The weather is supposed to be good, so I’d expect a fair amount of passing from Tim Tebow. The offense has looked horrible at times so far this year, but I think the bye week has helped bring them together. Gator fans should be in for a nice offensive explosion. Along with Percy Harvin, expect Louis Murphy and Deonte Thompson to be involved in the passing game. The ground game will get going with Chris Rainey. I’m also predicting that we’ll see Moody (who’s been absent thus far) get 5-7 carries in the UT game. To everyone who’s going to the game, have fun! And Go Gators!

Bye Week to Fix Gator Offense

Posted by admin on September 12th, 2008   No Comment

The Florida Gators just got done beating Miami last weekend. After a full week of controversy ( Miami ’s Coach Randy Shannon has been complaining about that last minute field goal the Gators kicked), most fans want to see their team back on the field beating up on the competition. Unfortunately for Gator fans, this is a bye week. No game tomorrow! Don’t worry though, there are plenty of good matchups to watch (like OSU vs USC). So find a spot on your couch and get comfy.

Gator players won’t be as fortunate. Just because they have a bye week, doesn’t mean they won’t be practicing. And by the looks of the Gator offense through the first few games, I would expect Coach Urban Meyer to drill these players. The offensive line has especially played horrible through the first two games. Tim Tebow has been getting pressured and hit way more then he should be. We thought the O-line would be a strength this year with Phil Trautwein coming back and the development of the Pouncey twins. They need to get their act together.

I’m glad the Gators have a bye week now so Meyer can better prepare them for SEC play coming up on September 20th (the Gators will be traveling to Tennessee to face the Vols). Their offense must improve if they want to win in the SEC. Miami has a good defense, but they shouldn’t have limited the Gators to only 1 touchdown in the first three quarters. Having the extra week to practice will give the Gators the extra reps they need to get the offense in sync.

Whiner VS Winner, Miami coach complains

Posted by admin on September 10th, 2008   No Comment

The Florida Gators have just defeated a team that they haven’t beat in years. The Miami Hurricanes. After the Gators 26 to 3 victory as the players were shaking hands, Miami Coach Randy Shannon is now known as a Whiner. After the game, instead of shaking Hands with Gator coach Urban Meyer he slapped hands. Shannon was whining about the calls from the SEC refs and was also mad because Urban Meyer put in the new kicker to kick a field goal late in the game under a minute to put the Gators ahead 26 to 3. What is bad about that? Just because he needed practice and has never been in a live situation before? Get a grip coach. Another reason why the late field goal was smart was because look what happened to the College Football polls. Florida jumped in front of Ohio State as number 4. The Buckeyes let Ohio stay in the game which allowed them to drop to number 5. If Florida would have let up, the same thing could have happened. Look at the Georgia vs Georgia Southern game. Why do you think Georgia moved from the Number 1 spot to number 2? They let Georgia Southern gather up the 21 points that shouldn’t of been there.

Quarterback Tim Tebow had A lot to say and was backing up coach Meyer all the way. Tebow was mad about how Randy Shannon questioned Meyer behind is back. Tebow stated that why would he say that about Coach Meyer when it is not true at all? Tebow also replied to reporters that Meyer is one of the best coaches in the Country and that is why he chose Florida. (stated: ocala.com) Also Tebow added about Shannon, if you want to talk about him, you should talk about A lot of other coaches before you start talking about Urban Meyer. (Stated from ocala.com) Tebow is 100 percent correct. Shannon went way to far on his remarks and his bad sportsmanship. Tebow was really hyped up when he was being interviewed about this matter. It was almost like he was angry because his voice got louder and louder and it’s fine because he is doing the right thing. Sticking up for his coach just because Shannon is a cry baby. Randy Shannon should get a grip. Gators were now running the score and Meyer did not mean it in any negative way. The Gators have a by this week, and will face the Tennessee Vols on week 4 in Knoxville and will be the first SEC game.

Gators Use Bye Week To Prepare
